A lot of the filming WAS done in Vegas. Which explains the opportunity Stallone had to literally pin movie critic Roger Ebert against a slot machine and commented to him that: Though it's understandable that he took liberty in knocking his films, "I suggest you stop knocking me as a person when you do it."

David Mendenhall was injured shortly after release of the film. Sylvester Stallone visited his co-star in the hospital immediately...though Mendenhall was glad to see Mr.Stallone, he was surprised on why he showed up with an "Over the Top" action figure, "since I had met the real thing by making the movie"

"Over The Top" is mentioned in episode 6, Season 2 of the popular Fox TV series "The O.C." Stars Seth, Ryan, and Marissa all say they will be watching "Over The Top," which 'they can watch hundreds of times and never get tired of'.
