The director, Alan Metter, asked the same people that coached the gymnasts that did Kevin Bacon's stunts in the film "Footloose" for help. Metter felt the dance sequences needed an extra kick & the coaches stepped in & helped.

Virtually every young cast member was older than he or she played in the film: Sarah Jessica Parker (Janey) was 20, Helen Hunt (Lynn) was 22, Jonathan Silverman (Drew) was 19, Holly Gagnier (Natalie) was 23, Lee Montgomery (Jeff) was 24, and Shannen Doherty (Maggie) was 14.
