Breathless Behind The Scenes

It was originally intended that "Breathless" end the same way "A Bout De Souffle" does, with Jesse being gunned down in the street by the police and Monica becoming hysterical over his death. But preview audiences were furious that Richard Gere died and the producers opted instead to end with the startling freeze-frame.

There were a couple of other love scenes that wound up being edited out in order to get the R-rating. In one of them, Gere slowly cut her dress off of her, by carefully using a pair of scissors. In another, a palm tree exploded into flames behind them as they made out.
