The movie caused a sudden increase in sales of Ray-Ban "Wayfarer" sunglasses around the country. This was the type Tom wore in the movie.

The scene where Joel proclaims "Looks like its Univiversity of IL!!!" was cut short. After he says this all of the party guests pile into the study where he is having his interview and start giving him high fives and begin chanting "Joel! Joel! Joel!"
In the scene where Joel is being interviewed there is a knock at the window behind him. When he pulls the shutter aside he sees two young men. One of them speaks, "Hey Joel this is my cousin Rueben, he's from Skokie, can you get him in?" This actor is better known as Jimmy Baron, a voice talent in an Atlanta radio station.
