Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a remake of an earlier film: Bedtime Story (1964) With David Niven and Marlon Brando.

Ian McDiarmid, who plays Arthur the Butler in this film, is best known for his role as the evil Emperor Palpatine in the "Return of the Jedi" and "The Phantom Menace".
