This was Kristy Swanson's first major role as the murderous Samantha. Swanson was just sixteen years old. This was the same year she had a bit part in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
The movie's screenplay, based on the novel "Friend", was adapted by Bruce Joel Rubin who later won an Academy Award for his original screenplay of "Ghost" (1990).
Matthew Laborteaux played Albert on popular family show "Little House on the Prairie."
