I was an extra in the movie. Many of us punk kids in the malt shop scenes were recruited from a punk club in Atlanta called 688. We got $50 a day. One of the extras was a friend of mine who later became the bass player of the 90s rock band Drivin' N' Cryin' (who had a big MTV hit in 1991). The wife of the producer was Cheryl Ladd
who was often hanging around the set smoking.
