Paul Maslansky (Creator/Producer) originally wanted either Michael Keaton, Tom Hanks or Judge Reinhold for the role of Mahoney, but was knocked over by the screen test of the mostly unknown Guttenburg.
Marion Ramsey wore a fat suit for her role as Laverne Hooks. She was supposed to lose weight and look better as the films progressed, but this was cut out of the script.
