Go behind the scenes and learn what went on during the making of the 1988 Comedy movie starring Sonny Bono, Ricki Lake, Ruth Brown et al.

Divine also wanted to play Tracy Turnblad but the director felt that the movie would be better if Tracy was played by another actress.

"Hairspray" was Ricki Lake's first movie. One of the main reasons that Ricki got the part of Tracy was her confidence. She didn't seem shy or as held back as many of the other actresses who auditioned.

Though the they seemed to have good chemistry on camera, many of the actors were very harsh and nasty to Ricki, especially in many of the kissing scences.

John Waters encouraged Ricki Lake to keep eating, especially sweets, while filming because she was losing weight.
