An Illinois State Police Station (formerly Maine North High School) at 9511 Harrison St.; Des Plaines, IL was extensively used, including the detention drop-off exterior scenes at the beginning. [Thanks to Chad]

The library where the majority of the film is set was actually a set constructed from scratch in the Maine North High School Gymnasium!. The School had been closed for two years before the filming of the movie, and was used for park district purposes and for the Chicago Blitz before the Illinois State Police bought it and it became a Police Station.
