Okay now don't make fun of me on this one but I am watching Boogie Nights. In case you need a summary it is about the Pornography industry in the late 70s and starred Burt Reynolds, he was actually nominated for this, Mark Wahlberg, and Julianne Moore. The names that these characters are in here are so original. I mean how can you not love Dirk Diggler, Reed Rothchild, Amber Waves, and Roller Girl. Maybe not the last one, but you know what I mean.

Don't you think that sometimes that a characters name really makes a film. For instance would this film have been as popular with character names like John Williams, Bruce Davis, or even something like Tom Davis. Doubtful!

I'll Jump! I have to agree with you on this one. I mean a great example that comes to mind are the character names in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. I mean when you think about the names of the characters, you can almost imagine what they are about. Maybe it is just me, but doesn't Charlie Bucket just sound like a kid that is poor and down on his luck? And take Augustus Gloop, you HAVE to think of a fat kid when you hear that!

Bwaha, the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory one's pretty good.

I'm trying to think of some movies I liked with the name thing going on . . . because in all honesty, unless it's satire I find it kinda corny usually. Um . . . In My Boyfriend's Back, the girl he was in love with was named Missy McCloud. Or how 'bout Earth Girls Are Easy? The main character is Valerie Gail, and guess what her personality is like? [Wink]

Ooh. Spaceballs. Dark Helmet? Lone Star? Pizza the Hut? Tons of 'em there.

I think the 80's action movies provided some quality charcter names@

Mason Storm
John Rambo
Matt Hunter
Cole Trickle
Chappy Sinclair

my god the list is endless...

Fave character name of all time though has to be...

Man with dog

That guy is so busy he appears in the credits of hundreds of movies and I'll bet he doesn't get paid much either... [Wink] [Big Grin]

i do like honey bunny and pumpkin (pulp fiction).

dirk diggler is a good one. when i worked at the video store there was this old man working with us but he was the hippest old man ever. his name was dave and everyone loved him, because he was funny, cool, and just always made everyone's shift fun. we all started calling him diggler, because of boogie nights as a joke. but til this day, that is his name. no more dave, just DIGGLER.

Um, your 80s action movie names contain a few errors:

The character of Cole Trickle is a 90s movie character and I wouldn't classify "Days Of Thunder" as an action movie...A "power drama" is more like it.

Also, the character of Mason Storm comes from "Hard To Kill", which was a 90s movie.

And for what its' worth, there's a female porn star named Mason Storm as well.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

Seriously, don't you have anything better to do than nit pick at other people thread's? Get a life FFS!!! For your information I researched those particular name from the Ruthless Guide to 80's Action Movies and I have better things to do with my time than cross reference each one..

In fact, Jessie didn't even say this was decade specific.

Whoa, Noms. Calm down...This is just how I am. I do have a life, thank you very much. I just figured I would let you know that those aren't 80s characters...The Ruthless Reviews guide contains several 90s movies and so I just figured I would be a little technical about it.

I'm sorry. Buds?

FWIW, I have some 90s names I like:

-Nino Brown from "New Jack City"

-Lumiere from "Beauty And The Beast"

-Iago from "Aladdin"

-Amon Goeth from "Schnidler's List"

-Kat Harvey from "Casper"

There you go.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff
