Okay, so I was searching around on Netflix Instant Watch and came across this movie...have any of you guys seen it??
It's from 1978...John Travolta plays this young drifter type who has no family & some shady friends. He spots Lily Tomlin at a party where he's working as a valet & begins to persue her as, get this, a love interest!! Yeah, my thoughts exactly!! I watched the entire movie in awe cause I kept thinking, who did the casting for this?? I love Lily Tomlin, I mean, she was great in 9-5 but watching her try to pull off this older seductress/cougar role was all kinds of wrong!!
There were plenty of love scenes throughout the film & even Travolta's character's name was "Strip!" Are you kidding me? To hear Tomlin say, "Oh Strip..." over and over again just added to the ridiculousness!
Here's the kicker...to some degree, I actually enjoyed this cause it's sooooo not what you'd expect & the movie demands you keep watching in disbelief! I love the location where it was shot & the beach house that was used...it was pure 70's eye candy from the interior design to the outdoor hot tub! Totally hot!! LOL!
If you have the opportunity to check this one out before it's yanked from Netflix, do it. It has never seen a DVD release & I doubt it will...I have to find out a way to preserve this bomb for amusement purposes only!
If any of you have seen this, your thoughts please?

And yes.. I've seen this movie and the hot tub scene is quite embarrassing to watch if your Mom that 'loves' John Travolta in is in the room with you as a kid!!!
If I remember correctly .. Travolta takes off his underwear in front of Lily Tomlin and slowly gets in the hot tub. Then proceeds to ask Tomlin if she loves him. Very traumatizing!
I remember laughing a lot at his name. Makes sense now.

Yes, Valley, that's exactly how that scene played out...I was horrified watching it alone! LOL! I actually yelled at the tv, "Shut up! Stop! Stop asking her that!!" Lol! He was such a needy baby!! Major turn off! I'd have peeled out of that hot tub right quick if I were Lily.

God, this is a dreadful movie that I had just about completely blotted from my mind. As I recall, it was written and directed by Lily Tomlin's partner, someone who should've stayed the heck away from movies. It's like watching a train wreck, with two careers crashing and burning before your very eyes. If you played this on a double feature with Travolata's "Perfect," it would be considered torture under the Geneva Convention. No worries, my brain is already badly damaged
The flick was in movie theaters here back in ´79 but i believe that it was so bad nobody released it on VHS. It´s been televised nationwide once in the year 2000 but i didn´t see it then.

I brought up Perfect to a co-worker they laughed so hard at me and said "there's a movie form the 80s I think where Travolta lost his career for a long time" I had said the one where he and Olivia are bank robbers and he goes "no that's not it" I found out it was this!!
Cindy you are intriguing me to watch it though........I don't know?????

I vote we all watch the "The Boy In the Plastic Bubble" with John Travolta instead. This is another Travolta movie from my childhood that I actually enjoyed .. it kinda felt like an afterschool special though.
Thought Glyniss O'Conner was great as the next door neighbor and the girl that Travolta's character would risk everything just to be able to touch her.
But I must admit it feels a bit odd now knowing about Travolta's relationship with Diana Hyland who played his mother in the movie. Plus, knowing that she died while Travolta was filming "Saturday Night Fever" is almost shocking.

I had a biology professor in college who used to go on and on about how medically inaccurate "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" was. It, however, clearly beats "Moment by Moment" and "Perfect" as a better film by a furlong.

There might be something seriously wrong with my brain but I think I liked Moment By Moment better than all the other movies mentioned here! I want this on DVD and I'm not afraid to admit it...

Like atomiK pointed out it wasnt on VHS so there WAS no way to watch it for years and years. Ive read about it in so many Bad Movie books, Ive always been dying to see it.
I also think it hurt them that Lily Tomlin and John Travo;ta look so much alike! In fact, lily Tomlin is a Dead Ringer for John Travolta's SISTER Ellen travolta who used to be on HAPPY DAYS! So..yea...watching them make out should be all sorts of Not Hot!
A friend sent me BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE as a joke (he had found it in a 99 Cent Store) and I was like "I LOVE THAT MOVIE!" In all seriousness, I DO! LOL. But Im a sucker for Made For TV Movies and Afterschool Special-type stuff. So if u guys wanna all watch it 'together' I'll do that.
Hate PERFECT, but everytime its on TV my husband watches it. Hmmmm.

This is another so-bad-its-good entry, one that despite having no real storyline and lurches drunkenly from scene to scene, can manage to perversely entertaining if only to watch the stars make complete fools of themselves (this, Perfect, and Battlefield Earth consecutively would constitute crimes against humanity, yes, unless you're a baby Psychlo on a steady diet of kerbango--but that's another story for another day...)

mamamiasweetpeaches .. that was a great point about Lily Tomlin and Ellen Travolta. You just made this movie even creepier for me to watch. ha.. maybe you should stick with "Curtains" because I know your thoughts on that one.
Despite Crash's Biology teacher's objections.. I'm with you on "The Boy In the Plastic Bubble" .. I really enjoyed it as a kid. It had a cute charm to it.
And Chris that three pack is frightening .. though I must admit that if the Muffy induced 'Travolta crotch shot' hadn't traumatizing me in the 80's thread.. I'd admit that I'm actually a fan of "Perfect".

Interestingly; Travolta had just had a relationship with an older woman (actress from 'Boy in the Plastic Bubble') who'd passed away when he was making Saturday Night Fever, so maybe he felt a personal connection to the script?
