Hello everyone. This is the second time I've tried to upload a photo to the MyTravelGov portal for an online US passport renewal. At first, they told me the image was too big, then they gave me an error about the background. Although the background is a white wall at home. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I took the photo on my phone, the photo came out clear, but the system still complains. Maybe someone has encountered such problems? Is there a list of current requirements for photos in 2025 so that I can immediately understand why they are rejected?

This situation is common because system checks everything automatically and very strictly. For example, the photo must be square 600x600 px and weigh no more than 240 kb. Even if the background seems white, the camera can catch shadows or shades. Plus, the head must take up 50-69% of the frame, otherwise there will be an error. I also suffered for a long time until I found a ready-made solution — passport photo size requirements 2025 https://digital-passport-photo.com . There you can upload a photo, and the service will check everything according to the rules, adjust the size and background. So the photo is uploaded without failure, and you don’t have to waste time on repeated attempts.

I think it’s often a matter of light. When you take a photo near a wall, a shadow may fall from your neck or shoulders, and the system considers this a violation. You can simply move away from the wall a little and turn on additional light on both sides. Then the photo looks more even.
