I’m looking at a used Toyota Camry that looks spotless, drives great, and even has low mileage. But I keep hearing stories of cars with hidden damage that don’t show signs until later. The seller says there were no accidents, but I don’t know how to verify that myself. Can the VIN show this kind of stuff? What would be the best way to check that kind of history?

Yeah, been there. I bought a Corolla that looked clean but had weird tire wear after a few weeks. Turned out it had been hit hard on the side and repaired poorly. Wish I’d known to check carfax usa first — they would’ve shown that insurance had paid for bodywork on that exact side two years before. CARFAX reports cover not just accidents but also if airbags deployed, if it was totaled and rebuilt, or if it was sold through salvage auctions. Now it’s the first thing I check — just enter the VIN, pay the fee, and you get the full story. Totally worth it, especially with sellers who play dumb or lie.

Wow, that’s exactly the kind of thing I was worried about. Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ll go ahead and grab a report from carfax usa before I move forward.
