I've been sitting over this essay "problem-solution" for three days and I just don't understand where to start. The teacher said that I need to choose a real problem and offer solutions, but I'm stuck. My head is full of thoughts about global warming and plastic bags. But I'm not sure that this is "fresh" and interesting enough. How to properly structure this type of essay? What to write in the first paragraph? And how not to get confused? Maybe some of you have already written something like this? Please share your experience.

Start with something simple: choose a problem that is really familiar to you or interesting. For example, you can take something from everyday life or studies. There are also tips for high school, college, and even IELTS. I recommend starting with writing a thesis statement – these are 1-2 sentences at the end of the introduction that clearly show what your paper is about. Then write step by step: problem, then solution. The main thing is not to try everything at once.

I chose the topic “Why students are late for classes and how to change it” – and got a good grade. This is about us, so it is interesting! If you are looking for an idea, try to remember what irritates you in everyday life – for example, slow Wi-Fi in a dorm or noisy neighbors. A problem is not always something large-scale. The main thing is to offer real solutions. And also – do not forget about the conclusion. It should briefly repeat your main ideas.
