An aspiring painter (Woody Harrelson) falls in love with a woman he randomly meets, but after a brief affair, she suddenly disappears. Soon realizing that he can't forget her, he tries to track her down. His loss leads to inspiration in his art that he has always lacked.

IMDB actually lists "Cool Blue" as a movie from 1990, but I distinctly remember it from 1988.. so it was definitely late 80's stuff.

The movie itself is only decent in my opinion, but what it lacks in substance .. the supporting cast makes up for with great performances and cameos.

Let me start with Chris McDonald who was great as the rich entrepreneur that noticed Harrelson's early work, but said it lacked focus.

And Hank Azaria is excellent as Harrelson's buddy and partner in slacker crime. Probably the star of the movie when I reflect back on it.

Okay here was a real treat .. one of the girl's Harrelson connects with in the movie is Judie Aronson as Cathy. That's right .. Hilly from "Weird Science" is in this flick and geek up guys because there a little Aronson nudity in "Cool Blue".

Finally.. in an uncredited and goofy role is Sean Penn as a sunflower seed catching plumber named Phil. The only thing I can think of is that he must have done it as a favor or something.

Intrigued?

Sounds interesting, kind of like a film noir; did the Harrleson movie 'Palmetto' made some stylistic / thematic references to 'Cool Blue'?

caught this on the EPIX HD channel, playing this month. I remember it back from HBO when I was young, but I can dig it more now of course.
