Has anyone else ever typed in IMDB's website and had problems with it coming up? Sometimes when I go to get on their website, I get bumped off...or some gossip website pops up instead of it...and I have no clue why. Sometimes when I am on imdb and I go to look something up, it closes out and bumps me off of the website. Has anyone else had problems on it?

No - IMDB has always been pretty good. Maynbe it's your ISP, and the fact you were on IMDB is a coincidence.

Also, if you go to the site and the browser gets redirected to another site, it sounds like your PC might have some malware in it - best to run a full virus and spyware scan.

ISIS,

You need to run a full malware/spyware scan on your system. This is very common. I fix problems like these every day. If you are not running any programs, here are some free ones:

These are all free and work well...

Ad-Aware:
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2008/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?tag=list&cdlPid=10844457

Spybot:
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=list&cdlPid=10804822

Zone Alarm Firewall: This is a firewall if you don't have one. Put it in "learning" mode for the first week.
http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Firewall-Windows-2000-XP-/3000-10435_4-10039884.html?tag=list&cdlPid=10698360

Remember to...

1.) Virus scan anything you download (including these programs) BEFORE you install anything.

2.) After installing these programs, run the "search for updates" to ensure you have the latest version/definition files.

3.) If you are going to install the firewall "Zone Alarm", make sure you install it FIRST before the other packages listed here, and make sure to put it into "learning mode" for at least a week.

4.) If you are not running an antivirus (and you should be in this day and age) then look into buying one. There are free ones as well that do a pretty good job. Here are two of them:

Avast:
http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=lst-0-7&cdlPid=10841442

AVG:
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=lst-0-3&cdlPid=10834624

Both are good and they are free. Just remember, if you install both of them, only have one of them run at Windows startup or they will conflict with each other.

* Please make sure to check for updates "weekly". This is VERY important.

There are many other out there. Some are better than others. I use three antivirus, three antispyware/malware products. Some I pay for for, others are free. There is no perfect solution.

And, yes, it DOES suck that we have to do all of this!

Let me know if you have any other questions... [Big Grin]

BTW...

www.imdb.com is down.... Looks like a DNS "name resolution" issue...

According to IMDb, their servers that host www.imdb.com are down and have been down since yesterday 5:00pm eastern time standard.

They are investigating the issue.

You can still access IMDb by using their mirror sites:

http://www.imdb.co.uk/
http://us.imdb.com/
http://farm.imdb.com/
http://former.imdb.com/

Ok....well at least I know it's them.

Thanks jdoc...I just took my computer a week ago, and they went through it, and put in all kinds of virus stuff, and took out any junk I had in it...that's why I didn't understand what was happening.

Thanks for letting me know, because I was thinking maybe it was something they had just done to my computer.

80's,

Most browsers come with a pop-up blocker these days. You just have to make sure to enable it. They help with annoying pop-ups, bu they don't block a lot of malware and spyware. [Wink]

It's really a shame that we have to deal with these problems, but, they are getting worse all of the time.
