Wanted to get it in before the day was out. Where were you when the stock market crashed on Black Monday '87?

Gosh I remember that day, thank goodness I was way to young to have any investments.

Chris,

I was working as an auto mechanic in New Jersey. I remember the day well. Lots of bad things happened as a result... Anyway, if you believe the economists, we are headed for another very bad recession here in the US. Weeeee.... > [Smile] Who needs retirement anyway? [Smile]

Part of me just wants to get the whole thing over with; the suspense of whether or not the market's going down is getting too much to bear (market, that is). At least most severe recessions only last a year and a half or so. And at least I know any effects on myself would be minimalized, as our housing situation has been stable for years, and my employment status has gotten better, now doing double shifts because I'm the only one available to work at the station on weekends until further notice. Now if we come just convince the Turks that going after the Kurds would be fruitless and self-defeating and land them in hot water with lots of other countries, all would be well.

Back on subject, I myself think I might have watched footage from the crash on Headline News at the time, although at age 5 it's not going to mean much and didn't. Reagan might have given a speak that night to calm us all down; I just wouldn't remember that much.

I remember Black Monday in Fall '87 - I was senior in high school at the time, so the economics of the situation didn't make much of an impression on me - and, I don't remember if this made much of an impact on my family at the time.
