Have read some books on Metal over the past few years and this NWOBHM tag was given to a bunch of upstart metal bands from England at the dawn of the 80's. I know Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield were big fans of some of these bands, even though some were obscure and most Americans at the time didn't know about them. In the early days of Mettalica, they did covers by bands like Diamondhead and most people in the audience though they were originals. Out of this movement, probably Iron Maiden and Def Lep were the biggest success stories.I was lucky to find a tape compilation once of NWOBHM bands like Angel Witch, Tank, Tygers of Tyn Pang, Venom, Diamondhead, Venom, Praying Mantis etc.
