Im reading a book about the history of Heavy Metal. A lot of the acts they speak of are old favorites (Ozzy, Ac_Dc, Judas Priest) but they keep mentioning Saxon. I dont think I've ever heard a song by Saxon. Did I miss anything? Are they any good? Should I buy their cd?

They had very minimal stateside but were very huge over in the UK. They play them quite often on Metal Mania on VH1 classic. I think they're ok but nothing special. They are one of the frontrunners though of the NWOBHM movement. Power & The Glory is considered to be their best album, followed by Wheels of Steel and then Denim & Leather.

Watching their videos can be kind of comical for I'm not sure if it's intentional or unintentional comedy but the way they dress on stage is such a mismatched group of guys and downright cheesy to the excess.

They had a lengthy career so they have that going for them compared to a bunch of metal bands that came out during the 80's so from a historical standpoint getting their greatest hits might not be a bad idea.
