I'm doing a compilation and I need some good 8o's instrumentals. I have a few, but not as many as I thought there were. Some are from movies. Any suggestions? Would be much appreciated. I have these thus far.
Who does the Popcorn instrumental song?

Did the group A Flock Of Seagulls record an instrumental song? I believe it was called "Space Age Love Song"?

The Pretenders recorded "Space Invaders", an instrumental, on their first album.

A number of hit singles from TV theme songs and movies are instrumentals, such as Vangelis' "Chariots Of Fire" and Jan Hammer's "Miami Vice" theme song.

Several "progressive rock" bands such as Rush and the early Genesis (when Peter Gabriel was with them) did a number of instrumental songs.

For a list, go here:

Here's a few:

Love Theme Song From St. Elmo's Fire(instrumental version) by David Foster
MacGyver Theme Song
Theme Song from Halloween(the movie)

I also have a version of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson which is mostly instrumental....pretty cool.

I have all of these. PM me if interested.

You can´t go wrong with Jan Hammer.
Check at least these awesome cd´s out:

Escape from Television (1987)
Snapshots (1989)

There are tons and tons of great instrumental songs.
Can you tell us more what kind of stuff you like the most?

If you want rock instrumentals, you can't go wrong with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eric Johnson, Tony MacAlpine and other artists like that.

Thanks for the listings guys, helps a lot. Looking at some of the songs, I realised I have a few I didn't even know were instrumentals. Atomik, I realise there are a lot of styles out there, I guess I'm going to have to catagorize them in sections such as industrial, hip hop, new wave, rock, new age, movie & TV show themes. There's other artists like David Sylvian, Brian Eno and Tangerin Dream I want to get, just a matter of what to get. Thanks Sam, totally forgot about Switch 625.

Halloween II (1981)
Christine (1983)
Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
Prince of Darkness (1987)

And of course these Ta Dream soundtracks:

Thief (1982)
Wavelength (1983)
Risky Business (1983)
Firestarter (1984)

Heartbreakers (1984)
Legend (1985)
Shy People (1985)
Near Dark (1987)

Miracle Mile (1989)

Other awesome 80s Ta Dream studio albums:

Tangram (1980)
Exit (1981)
Hyperborea (1983)
Le Parc (1985) (includes Street Hawk theme)
Optical Race (1988)

from the Into the Dragon album (1988)

Great use of the classic John Carpenter
Assault on Precinct 13 soundtrack (1976)

Another great Tangerine Dream soundtrack, which I don't believe was ever released as an album, is "The Soldier" (1982) starring Ken Wahl and the inimitable Klaus Kinski. Director James Glickenhaus's stuff was a cable staple in the 80s.
