The young woman 'Doris', played by Lelise Folse, who tells Garrett Breedlove "you're drunk, and much older than us" is dubbed. The credits show that the voice of Doris was done by actress Mary Kay Place, who was terrific in the '80s movies Private Benjamin and the Big Chill and was also known for her part as Loretta Haggers in the '70s TV show "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman". I recognized her voice the first time I saw Terms of Endearment and have always wondered why the girl playing the part required a voice-over. Mary Kay Place has a very authentic sounding Southern accent courtesy of being from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

During filming of "Terms of Endearment," Debra Winger began dating Bob Kerrey, who was the governor of Nebraska and single at the time. He later became a US Senator from Nebraska.

Debra Winger and Shirley MacLean were constantly at each other's throats throughout production.... Allegedly due to Winger's cocaine dependency.

Danny DeVito, makes a delightful cameo, as "Vernon Dahlart".

The scene where Debra Winger is dying in the hospital and her her son, Tommy is being a total brat made #1 on Entertainment Weekly's "50 Greatest Tearjerkers" issue.
