Mok was inspired heavily off of Mick Jagger, along with more inspiration from Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and Lou Reed.

Nelvana had sent Mick a care package of Mok and Rock & Rule stuff out of hopes of him being onboard for the movie, but instead, the studio was met with a Cease & Desist request, as Mok's last name was intended to be 'Swagger', and Mick Jagger did not take kindly to the parodical caricature of himself.

Rock & Rule was Nelvana's first venture into cartoon film production, other well known 80s cartoons of theirs include "Droids", "Ewoks", "Beetlejuice", "The Care Bears", "Inspector Gadget" and the company is still turning out new cartoons to this day.
