Rewind Archive"My Bodyguard" was one of Joan Cusack's (sister of John Cusack) first film roles, as well as her father Richard "Dick" Cusack, who played Cliffy's no-nonsense principal at Lake View High School.
Rewind ArchiveDick Cusack's appearance in "My Bodyguard" was not only his first movie in a 20-year acting career marked mostly by bit parts in Chicago-based films ("The Fugitive," "Chain Reaction," and "High Fidelity," among others), but it was the first film where he appeared alongside his daughter Joan. In 2000, he appeared for the last time with daughter Joan and son John Cusack on screen in "High Fidelity" as he would later succumb to cancer on June 2, 2003 in Evanston, Illinois.
Thanks to KimThe excerpt read by Cliffy's high school English teacher, Ms. Clarice Jump (who has been married to Mandy Patinkin -- of "Princess Bride" and "Chicago Hope" fame -- since 1980) is from Dicken's "A Tale of Two Cities."
Thanks to Dave PoseyThe hotel where the film takes place is an actual hotel in chicago and is still as active (and expensive) as it ever was. (The Ambassador East)
Thanks to David HoltonDuring the scene when the two main characters are walking through the junkyard looking for the missing part for the motorcycle, Adam Baldwin finds a piece that is close but not correct and unceremoniously throws it off in the distance. This scene is almost perfectly duplicated during the junkyard sequence in the Firefly episode "Ariel", Season 1 Episode 8.
Thanks to Ginger De Los RiosDean Devlin had a small role in the movie and was listed as 'Boy'. His father Don Devlin produced My Bodyguard. Dean Devlin went on to make the blockbuster 'Independence Day' and cast his friend Adam Baldwin in a nice role as the army captain.
Thanks to Tim GThe scene were Clifford squirts ketchup and mustard was filmed at Jaws restaurant. It's no longer there and was a local hang out for kids to cut class and play video games...
Thanks to ChrisKulikIf you recall, Matt Dillon plays a mean trick on Joan Cusack earlier in the film, stipulating he would never take her out to a movie. Both actors had no idea they would become an item (eventually) in the 1997 comedy In & Out, in which Cusack was nominated for an Oscar.
Thanks to Johnney PerkinsAdam Baldwin who plays Linderman (the bodygaurd) makes a cameo in the recent film Drillbit Taylor where he is answering an ad the high school boys have put out for a bodyguard. He is dressed in the old army jacket just like in My Bodygaurd, Great homage!
Thanks to Ginger DeLosRiosAdam Baldwin (Ricky Linderman) named his son, 'Devlin' after the last name of Don Devlin the producer, and Dean Devlin his son, now a director.
Thanks to AnonymousChris Makepeace had previously played Rudy in the 1979 comedy Meatballs with Bill Murray.
Thanks to LoverswithCassieTim Kazurinsky appears in a small role early on as a workman at the hotel.
There's often fake stuff floating round, y'know? -Like the 'ghost boy' that can allegedly be seen in "Three Men And A Baby".
