The movie was novelized in 1985, the year of release, by Jason Frost.

The novel adds a lot more character development for both Hunter and Rostov (for example, Matt Hunter is not Hunter's real name, it was a name issued to him when he retired) as well as some subplots, like a romantic relationship between reporter McGuire and Hunter (which is only barely hinted at in the film).

Chuck was slated to reprise his role of Matt Hunter in 1986's Avenging Force. However, he was busy on other projects for Cannon at the time, and their rising action star Michael Dudikoff played Hunter instead.
