The Last Starfighter was the first, yes the first, movie to do all special effects on a computer. The Cray supercomputer generated all the shots of space, spacecraft, etc...
The movie, as scripted, was originally set in a Spielberg style suburban area. The filmmakers changed the setting to the remote trailer park to differentiate themselves and their movie.
Wil Wheaton originally had a part in the Last Starfighter but his scenes were cut before release. Too bad for Will, but he does have the "Star Trek" fame as "Wesley Crusher".

Deleted Scenes
When movies are made, scenes are often
left on the cutting room floor.
Sometimes, there will be several versions
of a movie floating about on cable, tv or video etc. Other times, a Director may
release a special cut of the movie.
