During pre-production, Lucille Ball wrote to producers Richard and Lili Fini Zanuck, asking them NOT to consider her for the role of Daisy. Although slightly younger than Tandy, she knew it would have been too much of a strain on her declining health and in fact she had past away before the movie was released.
