The Hitcher Locations
Locations Manager(s): Cass Martin
Under their watchful eye, the following special places were used for filming "The Hitcher":
The Hitcher was filmed at locations in California including Death Valley National Park.
The sandstorm scenes were filmed at Death Valley Junction, California. The abandoned garage is still there!
The truck stop scene was filmed in the High Desert, Hesperia, CA. at Newtons Outpost.
Roy's Diner in the movie is the real Roy's diner in Amboy, California, near the desert, on the famous route 66. I'll bet most of the driving scenes were filmed up and down this highway. [Thanks to Jeff Caine]
Jim nearly shoots himself at sunset a couple of miles east of Chambless on old Route 66. Later, he walks across the road to Stephen's Market in Chambless where he holds up the police car at the corner of Route 66 and Cadiz.
Some scenes were filmed at Twentynine Palms (at the same place Robert Harmon filmed his shortfilm "China Lake") [Thanks to Peter Baldinger]
Can you help? Do you know any of the California filming locations used for The Hitcher? Please Update Us
Locations LinksIf you know of a good link for The Hitcher locations, please let us know.
LX is our radical new locations feature that we've been beavering away on.. For years!
Each location will have it's own page with then/now pictures, maps, StreetView, discovery story and the most detailed explanations on how the location was used. Most importantly, the locations will have a status that shows whether they are verified correct and by whom. We are working with the actual locations managers or other crew where possible. The whole thing will be very interactive and you will, of course, be able to update everything.
