(1988) |
he Queen of “B” horror films becomes the Queen of her own “B” film. This is a classic ‘80’s comic film. It is done strictly in the style of Elvira. It was written by her and for her. So if you don’t care for Elvira lose this one. Otherwise grab a bowl of popcorn, sit back, and enjoy. We’re going on one Zany ride.
The Story...
Elvira’s got a Dead end job at a local TV station doing none other then what she does best, hosting “B” horror films. But this girl’s got bigger dreams. She wants to “STAR” in her own Las Vegas show. There is only one problem, she doesn’t have enough money. All of a sudden, she gets a telegram telling her that an Aunt she didn't know she had has died, and she's a beneficiary. To get the money, Elvira has to travel to a small “Moral” town in New England. Of course, she thinks her late Aunt has left her a fortune, but all Elvira really inherits is a house, a dog, and her late mother’s cookbook (spellbook). So with no money, an uncle who is out to get the book, and a town who wants her burned, Elvira has got to find a job and maybe a few friends.
Will she survive and earn enough money to fund her show, or will the nice towns people burn her at the stake... you will never know unless you see it.

| | | | I watched this film when it came out in theatres. I loved it then and I love it now. The jokes never get old to me, and the plot is still great "B" madness. Don't look for anything grand in this film. That is not the point. The point is to laugh and enjoy. So grab the popcorn and enjoy this one.

| | | | Elvira's "trick" during the Las Vegas musical number was cut out of many international theatrical releases and video versions of the movie. So watch out you may not see the whole Picture!

Elvira's real name is Cassandra Peterson. She was Las Vegas' youngest ever showgirl. Elvis once told her she had talent. She used to be a dancer on the Sonny and Cher Show. Despite her love of blood and all things gory, she is actually a vegetarian! -Thanks to Nicola Hassapis

In real life, Elvira is a redhead. -Thanks to Danytoon
The town of Falwell, Massachusetts, in Elvira's movie, has a strange resemblance to the real town of Falmouth, Massachusetts, on old Cape Cod... Is there any connection between the towns? Was Falmouth the inspiration for "Falwell"? -Thanks to Jeannette
The news anchor Elvira fights with was apparently based on a real person she worked with at a TV station in her early days. The anchor is played in one of her only live-action roles ever, by Elvira's fellow Groundlings alumni Tress MacNeille. MacNeille is better-known for her cartoon voice-over work, most especially as the voice of Millhouse and others in The Simpsons and on the Steven Spielberg cartoons "Tiny Toon Adventures" and "Animaniacs". On one episodes of TTA, MacNeille (voicing the character of Babs Bunny) did a dead-on impression of Elvira. -Thanks to John Edward Kilduff
The day of its theatrical release it came in at #2 and was beating out "Gorillas in the Mist", but the studio that financed the film (New World Pictures) went bankrupt on the day of the film's release. So instead of its original worldwide release, it was only shown in 300 theaters.
Due to the bankruptcy of New World Pictures and bad financial contracts, Cassandra Peterson and Mark Pierson, to this day, don't make a penny from the film's video sales or TV airings. -Thanks to Christian Greenia
Edie McClurg, who plays Chastity Pariah, was also a Groundling, a frequent guest-star with Pee Wee Herman and Cheech and Chong, and was one of the cast members of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" and "Serial Mom". Busy woman, huh? -Thanks to M N

| | | | Elvira's dress had to be glued on to her because they wanted it skin tight without it busting seams! -Thanks to Shawna
The Las Vegas scene was originally ommited from the shooting script because NBC executives thought it would be too expensive to build the set. So the film was shot and editied without it, and then screened for NBC executives to decide on whether or not to fund more money for the Vegas finish (which Cassandra really wanted). Ultimately, executives liked the film enough to fund the Las vegas scene. The scene was shot a month later in a warehouse in the San Fernando Valley, but some parts of the song and dance were cut from the final film.
The reason Elvira's dress was cut that way and her hair was so long in back was to hide the scars the actress has on her neck and shoulders from burns she received when she was five years old. -Thanks to Kat Fight

The town of Fallwell is actually on the Warner Bros. backlot, and is the same set used for "Dukes of Hazzard"'s Downtown Hazzard County. [Thanks to Albert, Mike Justice, and Tom]

| | | | | Too bad this one never came out. With songs like "Maniac" it was a good movie soundtrack.
