Okay, so I'm messing around with styles a bit, as you will have noticed... [Wink]

What does everyone think of this one?

Any suggestions/comments welcome [Smile]

Whoa! Very easy on the eyes! I like the new logo deals next to the topics. Super sharp. My only suggestion is that it still might need a little more brightness/color to represent the 80's. Neon somewhere! That said, this is really easy to look at.

Nick, two questions for you.

How has the next phase of Rewind coming? I believe you were looking into a movie location social media type deal.

Are you still adding new movie reviews?

Thanks again for all your hard work. Much appreciated by all!

Hey Gord, I am still working on the locations thing, but priority at the moment is changing the main site to be mobile friendly as Google are penalising those who aren't [Frown]

There's a lot of work in this part as it means the whole site and all the utilities have to be re-designed. There's actually a lot going on behind the scenes and I'm working on it virtually every day, but it takes sooo much time... sigh..

No new movies are being added at the moment, but trivia etc updates are all being done within 24hrs of ppl submitting them, so keep 'em coming ppl [Smile]

I did have the "new posts" - icon more neon to start with, but it started to be not so easy on the eyes, so I pulled it back a bit.. I do agree though.. needs a bit of neon still...

...Any suggestions gratefully received [Smile]

Not digging it, I can't tell what threads have new posts in them.

Looks good to me Nick. Appreciate all your hard work with this. ...

It's really nice but do prefer the old look. But I'm really bad with change so just ignore me [Razz]

Do you mean that you're "too used" to the old colours or there is another reason?

New posts now are kinda teal, old posts are now grey.

For example, these colours might look the same to a colour-blind person, so I don't want to alienate anyone!

Ok. Now I'm lost Nick. New posts are teal and old are grey?

Threads with new posts since your last visit -or- entirely new threads are teal.

Old posts, not updated since your last visit are grey [Smile]

Im nuance colorblind, but I can tell teal from grey, and I get it now. Still prefer the old look though... sorry.

I have modified the icons a bit to make allowances for those who might be colorblind. It was a subtle change and you may not have noticed.

No probs [Smile] I haven't finished with meddling yet, so see how you feel when its done [Smile]

Looking cool! I like the new icons,I'm also classed as being color blind but I also can tell the difference between the 2 colors.

Nick, while you're tinkering around is there any chance you could try and fix my pm? [Smile] This error message appeared where the pm's should be years ago and has just stuck like that ever since.

My PM does the same thing. It must be because of Helen's bad influence. [Smile]

Helen, I've disabled and re-enabled your PM access - can you try again?

As well as that, I'm assuming the page you're on is where you click on the My Profile link at the top of the page? If so, it may be that you have an old page version stored on your computer. If you try forcing a new page load (hold down Control key and hit F5) that might help, otherwise you should clear your internet cache (I'd need to know what browser you are using to advise on how to do that).

If these don't help, maybe we can do some more digging.....

Posted by Helen_S (Member # 5804) on :

It's taken away the error message but the pm's are still not there. I tried refreshing and clearing the cache but no go. Thanks for trying! It's so annoying cos I have 7 unread messages flashing at the top constantly, aghh!

Similar comment as above Nick...I think it's just "Different" and many seem to struggle with that! A little time and most will adjust....

I hope so [Smile] This colour scheme grew on me as I was doing it.. At first I was not sure, but after a while it was sitting quite well with me and I hope thats the same for everyone...

Tbh, I only have quite limited control over the look of this board. The style settings are quite primitive. I can only select about 5 colours for everything, including the text.

I wanted to refresh it and make it easier on the eyes and have a go at redesigning the built-in icons... [Smile]

Why teal? Well, the main colours had to be some form of pink, with grey and burgundy and that left really either sky blue or teal for the "new posts" icon... I tried blue and it looked great.. In a modern kinda way.. Whereas teal looked like the sort of bizarre 80s colour choice that could have happened at the time.. You certainly won't see any "modern" sites using it... [Wink]

I'll have a look today for you & Crash. Can't promise to recover those messages, but I'll try [Smile]

Update: In the words of Scotty from Star Trek.. "I done what ah could Cap'n"... That file was corrupted and the advice from the makers of the board software was to delete it. There was no recovery option that was possible, according to them.. Sorry. [Frown]

Anyone else whose having problems, let us know [Smile]

Wicked.. Youre welcome [Smile]

Okay, so deleting the file doesn't delete the PMs (the software ppl were not clear on this, so I had naturally assumed it did) ... It just fixes the prob [Smile]

Anyone else whose having the same prob, just let me know the exact error MSG and I'll do the same [Smile]

Again Nick...can't be said enough...thanks for all your hard work. Kinda like having a baby (your baby)...and people not likely the way you dress them! End of the day...it's your baby...dress them the way you want! [Big Grin] And...thanks for trying to accommodate regardless.

I need their error message which contains the affected corrupted file I think, although I know what to look for in the directory listing - a zero length file.

Crash, just let me know if you're still having problems. Same for anyone else [Smile]

Thank you Kevin, I appreciate it. [Smile] Of course I ultimately decide, but I genuinely do want everyone (if poss) to be happy.

I don't spend enough time on the boards, and I'm sure it looks to all the world like nothing is happening behind the scenes but nothing could be further from the truth and this was a relatively easy way to "refresh" things and show ppl that things are indeed happening behind the scenes.

The whole Rewind will be getting an entirely new look and feel that works much better on mobile devices, but before that can happen, all the peripheral stuff must change first and that involves major rewrites of thousands of lines of code.

For those who are interested, here's where we are:

* iRewind (contact/site update agent) is ported and live. Only a bit more tidying/beautifying and that can wait. People can try it out by submitting site updates and see what they think...

* PFR (my weird retro buying guide! [Wink] ) is in progress but I know where I'm going.

* Site Title Browser is nearly done

* Site People Profiler (actor/director/composer etc) is pretty much done in a quick n dirty kinda way.

* These boards have been refreshed. I drew all the icons myself. They're not from some "forum icons" download site [Wink] If anyone else wants to have a bash at suggesting new/improved 80s board icons or colours then I'm all ears... [Smile]

* New site design is not even started. This is the one that I always run away from. I hate the graphic design jobs as its soo hard to get things "just right". You'd imagine that designing things that look 80s is just about splashing around bright colours & neon accents.. I wish it was that easy.. If you do that, you just seem to end up with something that looks like "my first website" [Wink] As above, if anyone is a great graphic designer or web designer and would like to help, you'd be very welcome and I'd be very grateful [Smile]

Anyways, I will keep you all informed and give you sneak peeks from time to time if you'd like [Smile]

I like the new look. The first time I logged in, a few days a go, with the new look, the colored tabs didn't show up for me. This time they popped up. I like the pink and green/teal- very 80's! Thanks for the hard work, and very nice job Nick!

I did wonder about the Graemlins... Should we hold a competition to design proper 80s ones? [Wink]

I was just trying to be funny when I brought up the graemlins you guys. You do enough already as it is.
