I'm sure things have moved on a bit for a lot of people since the boards were last up so I thought I'd start this thread. But rather than allow it to become a lot of convuluted waffle, let's limit ourselves to 3 points of interest since you were last here.

I'll begin:

1. In June 2013 I became a grandfather.
2. In June 2014 I finally decided to stop living in army accommodation and bought a house in Scotland.
3. January this year I was promoted but unfortunately this meant relocating to London and only travelling home to my family on the occasional weekend.

Updated Noms [Cool]

Wow Noms, I knew about you becoming a Grandfather, and I think I remember you bought a house, but I did not know that you now have a long commute to see your family! I hope they find a spot for you closer to home.

First off, it's a great pleasure to be back on the iRewind forums! I greatly missed the boards during the downtime. I was thrilled beyond words once I found they were back online.

During the intervening years, I graduated college, started a part-time job as a medical writer/editor, started a membership at Planet Fitness (down 40 pounds from where I was about a year ago), and have been heavily pursuing pocket billiards as a hobby.

Welcome back everyone...thanks for starting this Noms...

My update is pretty basic:
1. Still with my Sweetie of almost 20 years
2. My two boys are now 8 and 3. And POOF...I have a girl (sadly my Sister In Law passed away this past November...my 10 year old Niece is staying with us full time)
3. The 80`s room I had always dreamed of...I finally have one!!
4. Per number 2 above, I`m still the guy that loves and collects 80`s movies...and...never has time to watch them!!! I keep trying though!

Glad to be back...looking forward to getting updates form everyone! Cheers...

Well, since the last time I really posted on here I got married, then divorced shortly after. I've been pretty much moving around the country like a drifter ever since.

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

Pyro, sorry to hear about the divorce. Sometimes I wish I could just pick up and move around the country. It is so boring here in the suburbs. I've been married almost 18 years now. It will be 18 years since we bought our house, in June. I really have no close friends here. They're scattered all over, anywhere but here. It's not from lack of trying. I am polite, and not a mooch or overly needy or clingy person. I just think in these times, everyone has lost all sense of manners and common decency, like returning phone calls when one invites them somewhere, or wants to make a sick person or someone who just had a baby some dinner.

Pittsburghgirl, i hate to be the one to say it.. but you kinda sound disillusioned and unhappy with the life you're living.

Then again, i'm no psychiatrist.

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

JohnnyRoarke, I don't think I even feel disillusioned anymore. I just don't care anymore about try ing to be friends with people or helping out. I have lived Ina few other places in PA, but none compare to this place.

I have a date with my husband on Saturday! Shopping, movies and dinner. I think we're going to see The Gunman. Will let you all know what I think of it in the 2000's movies section.

Good to see everyone in here again! Pyro, sorry about the changes. Hang in there. Pittsburgh Girl, I hope things liven up for you. Have you tried joining any groups? I've met some good friends through little things like pickup basketball games or golf. Just a thought.

Kev, do you have a picture of the 80's room? Congrats on the new family member!

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

I'd love to see kevdug's 80's room too!
On the upside here, I had that little reunion with one group of friends from college. We plan on getting together again soon. And another group of friendsfrom college, who live about 20 minutes away, well they told me to call them anytime to hang out. A few of them also golf, and have told me they'd rake me golfing sometime when the weather breaks. My hubby said he'll take to me a driving range first, and I can use his old clubs.
Hope you all have a great weekend

Cheers guys...I`ll work on a pic...forget how to post a picture, but I`ll figure it out. We used to rent the basement, but haven`t in years, so gave us quite a bit more space. Kids gained a playroom, my wife gained a meditation room....I got the outdated kitchen!!! It sounds bad, but I utilize the cupboards to hoard my 70`s and 80`s treasures...I figured if I can fit it in MY room, I can justify owing it. A bit of a tormented soul in that I hate clutter...but love STUFF! Go figure. A quick rundown...15 of my fav 80`s albums framed and on the wall, a Breakdance poster, older fridge full of 80`s magnets (some beer in the fridge), a giant round table with some chrome and high back faux leather chairs, 80`s wood grain TV with top loading VCR and an Atari, record player, a couple of ghetto blasters, and some 70`s + 80`s toys (six million dollar man, Gizmo, Mr T, Fat Albert figs, ET, Rubik`s cube, clock radio telephone, etc, etc. Sorry...I`m rambling. Please note...not at all luxurious....kind of has that crusty `first apartment `feel...but it`s all mine!!

Posted by gordongecko (Member # 4685) on :

That's amazing Kev! Hopefully the beer isn't from the 80's???

Good work Pittsburgh Girl!

Hey Pitts, golf is a great game once you get into it and if you don't get mad when you play bad it is quite relaxing too. Sometimes I play by myself and just enjoy the peace and quiet, the birds chirping, the feel of grass under my feet etc... and when you do play a good shot it feels pretty good too.

I know how you feel with people. We must have come across similar types and I think it is a good thing to stay away from rude and negative people. That is being positive in my opinion. Perhaps a sports club would be good, such as tennis or martial arts would be good.

Hi, everyone! It's great that this forum came back. I had given up hope. 3 things new are: I took a film class, started working on a script of a story I wrote in 1990, got a cool job at ABM. Hopefully in the future I can turn this script into a movie. It seems kind of like an '80s movie, but I don't want to give it away yet. I think we'd all like to see more movies resemble '80s flicks.

Have somehow landed myself in the small nook of Southern California I spent much of my teen years in. But again, since I'm used to moving around very frequently, I don't know how long I'll be here. At least going to ride out the holidays with my sweet old mum here. That much is clear.

I just saw this topic. If people haven't figured it out, I am Isis9968 (ISIS), I was on the Rewind back when we all were really close, and I was thinking about that not long ago.

I am on Facebook alot now, and I became friends with Rewinders off the board who I talk to on Facebook, some people I see in person as well.

My update....
When I started on here, I think my son was 9 years old. He is almost 23 now, he is going to be a Senior at IUP College In PA. He is double majoring. My husband and I have been married almost 24 years and been together 27 years.

We own a Bed and Breakfast in Central PA, and I have been open now- on April 1st this year- is our 10 year anniversary. It has been amazing. I have met people from all over the world, I have a huge following of people. We are going to have a big party this year for all of our guests who have repeatedly returned to us, and have become our close friends. It has been an amazing experience. My husband turns 50 in a month, so we are celebrating that too.

I don't think I have changed at all, I still miss the 80s every day. I still hate new movies. I still listen to 70s music and watch 80s movies - every chance I get. I have been to alot of concerts , and I have got to meet alot of 80s actors and actresses , some of them have become good friends of mine in real life.
A few have even come and stayed at our B & B.

I have a really great life, and I am really happy. The town I live in, has been less than ideal, but things have changed, we got an amazing restaurant now, that we can send all our guests to, it's all farm to table food. The chef is amazing.

The worst thing that has happened in my life, is my mother just started on dialysis a few weeks ago, and she has Stage 5 Kidney disease, which is as bad as it gets. We are hoping she might be a candidate for a transplant.

According to Google, i'm only 1919 kilometres away from Oulu,
and with the fastest route i can be there in 22 hrs and 18 min.

Damn it.. i'm not going to make it in time. [Frown]

We had a great day in Oulu.

Local youngsters Temple Balls started the show with their 80s brand of hard rock.
Few pretty good tunes and i´m looking for their debut album to be released soon.

Next came finnish veterans Peer Gunt and i have to say these guys surprised me.
They are much better on stage than on album.

Deep Purple hit the stage next and this was a great moment for us.
Nice mix of old and new stuff. Gillan needs his rest every once in a while so there were many solo spots.

Uriah Heep ended the show and they were awesome.
Fantastic performance from all and singer Bernie Shaw knew how to take the audience.
And what a voice this guy still has!

The event was over at midnight and we headed home with a big smile. Good times!

Sounds like a weekend well spent, aTomiK !

Tonight we have Bruce Springsteen performing here in Holland. It's an outdoor concert in The Hague,
completely sold-out (67000 tickets were available)..

One small problem though : It's been raining like hell here !

Another weekend, another show.

Call me crazy or whatever but i´m going to see our very own Sonata Arctica tomorrow [Smile]
Love this band and they are performing at the nearest town so it´s an opportunity not to be missed.

Sonata Arctica - Flag in the Ground

Currently in Budapest Hungary at the moment and just went to the Pinball museum, they had a cool Freddy's Dead,Elvira,The Simpson's and The Addams Family pinball machines amongst others

Pay once on entry and play all the machines for free for as long as you like, the place was packed and made for a good value couple of hours!

On the way back from Budapest today but while there i watched from the movie channel the 2015 comedy Sisters which was quite good fun,Daddy's Home with Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg which was good for a few laughs plus I also watched Flashdance for the first time ever and found it to be a lot better than what I was expecting,i quite enjoyed it actually and thought it was both very well shot and stylishly directed by Adrian Lyne.

Jennifer Beals looked really great also and I liked the Pittsburgh locations as well as most of the musical numbers!

My 9 year old son watched Alvin And The Chipmunks - Road Chip and The Peanut's Movie that looked from what I watched good fun!

This was the indoor pool at the hotel that I stayed at which I thought looked pretty decent!

There was so many in there Terd I would have been there for an age, they also had classics like Space Invaders,Mortal Kombat,Terminator - 2 person shooter,Air Hockey etc.etc.

The Pinball machines I remember playing were Freddy's Dead,BeetleJuice,The Simpson's,Elvira (which was a cool one),The Adams Family, Batman,Family Guy etc there was absolutely loads and the good thing was it was pay once and play anything for as long as you liked or for as long as the place stayed open!

Pittsburghgirl your husband would have thought that he'd died and gone to heaven if he spent the day in there!

My friend and I drove to Maryland for a much needed long weekend. We stayed with my friend from college, and a whole group of us hit the Ocean City boardwalk for eating and bar hopping! On Sunday we had lunch at the Crabcake Factory Bayside in Fenwick Island, Delaware, adjacent to Ocean City. I love that place. It has the most beautiful views. Then we went to Fishtales for a few beers, then back to my friend's house to watch the Arizona - New England game. I wish I could go back! Now back to reality!

It's really tacky, but it was fun. We ran into Boog Powell's (he played for the Baltimore Orioles and owns Boog's BBQ) son in the Cork Bar. I took a couple of pictures of my friends with him. We stopped at Tony's pizza and each grabbed a slice after we had hit a few bars, to soak up the beer 😋 And when you walk by Fisher's popcorn, your mouth is watering. They make homemade caramel corn there, and you can smell it 100 yards away!

My husband took me to dinner and then to see an 80's party band at a nice pub, last night. We had a blast. The singer is from my hometown, and I remember him trying to get a band together in the 90's. He has a phenomenal voice. He is someone who should have gone to the top, but chose to stick around western PA.

Sounds like you had a good time Pittsburghgirl,my week has been one to forget, monday after work I went over to see my father to give him a hand to cut down high brambles, nettles etc. around the perimeter of his field using a big heavy duty cutting mower and I accidentally disturbed a wasp's nest and got stung 3 or 4 times in the back of the head and worse still numerous times under my left arm where one or two had got down my top.

I still can't believe how far they chased me,put it this way it was a good workout!

On a positive note I've watched some good films [Big Grin]

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

Young Warrior, I know it must have been hell getting stung so many times. But I sure would've loved to see a video of the whole ordeal! My Mother in Law, who was 81 at the time (my husband was one of those "oops" babies) was trimming some shrubs when she ran into a huge wasp nest. She literally dropped the hedge clippers and did a tuck and roll into the neighbor's yard! Lol! My husband went over a few days later and used one of those bug bomb type things to kill them.

No I bet it did look funny I was wondering what the neighbors that live opposite my father's field must have thought if they saw me running around flapping my arms about I would have thought that they'd think I'd totally lost it!

Pittsburghgirl your Mother-in-law sounds pretty hardcore doing a tuck and roll at 81 she sounds a bit like a female version of Chuck Norris LOL

This past Friday, my iPad froze up, so I had to delete everything in Safari, and somehow got logged out of the Fast Rewind. I sent a request for an email for my password, but it never went through. I finally remembered on Satuday night that I had it written down, and it was on the desk with my P.C. Which I never use anymore! Whew! I though I was going to have to re-register! Anyhoo. I am going for a drive with one of my best friends to take photos of the fall foliage on Wednesday. I hope the weather is nice!

Pittsburghgirl - What area are you heading to? Just curious. We've been talking about heading up to NE area of OH to check out the trees.

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

I live in the east suburbs of Pittsburgh, but I am heading to my hometown, about 60 miles east of me. It is up in the PA Laurel Mountains area and the leaves should be changing now. There was a frost last week, so the leaves should be really pretty. NE Ohio should have nice foliage too. We have a camp in Erie county, PA, about 10 miles from the Ohio border. We were up there over the weekend of Oct. 8 and some leaves were starting to change. Enjoy your drive gordongecko!.

I am bored out of my skull. The hubby and I are both sick with nasty colds. I need to find some good movies to watch over the weekend. Anyone seen anything good on Netflix or Showtime? I got Showtime back so I can watch Homeland and The Affair.

Posted by gordongecko (Member # 4685) on :

Pittsburgh - Haha. I didn't read your last sentence in that post and was typing "have you seen Homeland?" Good thing I looked back up there. Such an addicting show. House of Cards was solid, but not the same level as Homeland, in my opinion. Making a Murderer? Fargo the TV show is awesome, but not sure if you can stream it. I actually really enjoyed Downton Abbey.....hopefully that doesn't take away any of my street cred.

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

I've seen all but Downton Abbey, Gordon. I did try to watch it once last year in VOD, but they wanted to charge me for each episode! What the heck! My tax dollars are already paying for it! My Father watched the last season on DVD. There is still a Family Video in my hometown, unbelievable! He missed a lot of the final season while my Mother was in the hospital.
Gordo, those are all excellent shows. House of Cards comes back in May. I really was on the fence about watching it. It became so addicting! Homeland is always a slow burn, so good.

The best, craziest, most amazing thing on TV right now is Taboo with Tom Hardy on the FX Network. It's violent, sexy, and insane. Hardy is fantastic--one of the best actors working today--and this project is a labor of love for him and his dad who co-created it along with the great writer/director Steven Knight ("Eastern Promises," "Dirty Pretty Things," and "Locke") It has an intriguing setting that you don't see recreated much, England during the War of 1812, and the whole thing has the feel of Charles D*ckens on acid--incest between adventurer Hardy and his half-sister included. It's a mesmerizing show.

Anyone watch the Super Bowl last night? What a game!!!

Posted by TerdNthePoolGGB (Member # 9818) on :

I saw some of it. I say some because supercross was on at 630 so it took priority over the superbowl. Was rooting for Atlanta not because I dislike New England, just wanted to see someone els win it other than the usual suspects. Who did you want to see win

I didn't have a dog in the fight, I just wanted a good game. I found myself cheering for New England because I do enjoy watching someone like Brady do his thing. He's the best all time and I can appreciate it.

We watched it, off and on. Everyone in Western PA were rooting for Atlanta. They should have won. I did say New England is never out of the game. They could be down 100-0 and still come back to win. I really just wanted anyone other than NE to win!

Crash, btw, I watched the first episode of Taboo. It was really good! Kind of reminded me of Penny Dreadful a bit. I haven't seen the final season of Penny Dreadful, but with so many spoilers online about the ending, I don't think I will bother. Going to continue with Taboo tonight.

Yeah, I thought so too with the outstanding production design. I am about a season and a half behind on Penny Dreadful, which is an excellent show, but Taboo is even better. Wait until episodes 4 and 5. Wow! It just builds and builds and builds. It's so crazy and unpredictable--and some of the dialogue is so profane as to be hilarious. Tom Hardy is brilliant in the lead. He's one of the best actors working today.

Crash, I finished episode 3 last night. It definitely is keeping me on my toes. I am constantly questioning (in my head) "why is he doing this or that, who is that?" Etc. I don't think the Actress is legit, but I could be wrong with all of the twists.

That's what I love about Taboo--you have no idea where it's going. Episode 4 is fantastic.
