The story is pretty much about a 20-something maid seducing the "15 year old boy" whose family she works for.

Okay, BIG PROBLEM: even though the guy who played the kid was 16 or 17 he didnt even LOOK 15! More like 12 or 13!

They should have at least tryed to find someone "older looking" I think

Anyone else remember this one?

They did, but that movie is actually called "My Tutor". ha

It is amazing how differently I view these movies and it is basically because the teenager appears older in "My Tutor". Which he was older in real life, but the premise of each movie was similar.

I will say that "Private Lessons" has a good soundtrack with Earth, Wind, & Fire and Rod Stewart tunes mixed in.

mamamia, i remember this discussion coming up some years ago with someone who had just watched it. this movie tends to generate this kind of reaction and i agree that it gives you that "what the......" feeling...in a cheesy way, i guess. [Big Grin]

not a movie i'd watch over and over but it's an 80's movie, had to see it at least once.

sylvia kristel, who plays the housemaid, was also in private school as the sex ed teach. and i believe she was also in some erotic films as well.

i don't remember the music from the movie, are they 70s hits?

I had the "Its An 80s Movie, Gotta See It At Least Once" theory going in too.

Its funny MY TUTOR got brought up cuz THATS what I found myself comparing it too! And the guy in MY TUTOR was a teenager, but looked "old enough" to be "carrying on" with an older woman. I mean, the kid in PRIVATE LESSONS was so young looking all I could think of was there was no way in Hell (aside from the money) the maid would have WANTED him to touch her!

from what i remember the songs were Tonights The Night and You're In My Heart by ROD STEWART and Fantasy by EARTH WIND AND FIRE. There might have been a few more but Im drawing a blank.

Ronnie.. I totally remember the discussion and it kind of got touchy. Kind of like the US reaction to the movie. Eric Brown looked 12 and in real life he was only 16 or 17 at the time. And most of the tunes were probably from the 70's.. I always liked "Fantasy" by Earth, Wind, & Fire.

mamamia.. I believe the uncomfortable feeling you had watching it is totally justified. I first watched it as a kid and wasn't bothered by it.. but I watched it again recently and felt uncomfortable as well.

And I talk like "My Tutor" is okay and in my mind I see it differently, but I looked it up on youtube when I started a thread about it awhile back.. at first it started like a where are they now with a song from the movie which was cool.. then it suddenly turned into a shocking reality of real life student/teacher relationships...

Have you guys seen THEY'RE PLAYING WITH FIRE? The same guy (Eric Brown) is in that one - and it works a little better cuz he's older- and strangely enough he's sexing up his teacher in THAT one! Was this guy type-cast or what?! hahaha

That movis is trashy but its trashy fun. Theres even a slasher-type-killer-on-the-loose story stuck in there, so I was at least amused by that (Theres a really odd Killer Santa scene in it that I was pretty much floored by!)

I definately recommend THEYRE PLAYING WITH FIRE over PRIVATE LESSONS.

I remember the cover with the boy standing on books to kiss his teacher more than anything else about the movie. Funny, back then it just didn't seem that big of a deal. How times have changed.

Are you deliberately seeking out these movies Mamamia? Are we going to have to keep an eye on you?!

Next you'll be bigging up 'A Night in Heaven'.

Hey Hey, I OWN A NIGHT IN HEAVEN! And that guy (Christopher Atkins) was AT LEAST 17. He was sorta dumb so maybe he had been left back a few times which would put him at even 18 or 19!

Well, what it is is I usually rent Horror movies but when my husband goes on business trips and Im afraid to be in the house alone I steer clear of Horror and rent cheesy 80s movies.

No, I dont have a secret Eric Brown fetish (Does anyone? Except for maybe MRS Brown?!) I rented THEY'RE PLAYING WITH FIRE AT LEAST a year ago!

But since we're on the subject, has anyone seen HOMEWORK? Joan Collins is the sexy older woman in that one. I dont think its on DVD though.

I caught part of this movie for the first time the other night, and I just sat there and stared at the screen like "WTF?" I was a bit creeped out by the movie. The cheap production makes it feel even more like soft core porn.

I read on IMDB that the location for parts of the movie had to be changed due to the fact that Eric Brown was not the legal age of consent where most of the movie was beingfilmed. Probably a tip-off that there is something inappropriate about the scope of the film...

Hmmmm... THE BIG BET? Have not seen that one yet.

A NIGHT IN HEAVEN is like WHITE CASTLE hamburgers - I know its not good for me but I just cant tear myself away! Its soooo bad its good. I remember when I was 12 or 12 my frined had an an aunt who would take us to the movies and then fall asleep during them so we always made the old biddy take us to dirty movies. I remember making her take us to A NIGHT IN HEAVEN and BACHELOR PARTY.

Well, when you put it like that...

A lot of protesting. I'm not sure the jury believes you.

This has got to stop.

Well said. Rash moralisation is always the best course of action. It's what the internet is for!

The guy looks like an adult. There's nothing there for you.

'The Big Bet' is a movie I can recall liking when I was... ah... 'of age'. It's burned into my brain because of the great... 'story'.

I knew it!

Take me with you next time! I've always wanted to see the rings of Saturn...

It makes my mouth water just thinking of them! Then again, I'm sure they don't look so great when passing through Uranus.

You're cosmic Saturnchick, cosmic.

I loved and still love these movies. I love the fact that movies like this even got made at one time. You couldn't do stuff like that in this country anymore. I love my country as much as anyone on the planet loves their own country, but it has been feeling awful stepford-ish out there of late. It's nice to pop one of these movies in once in a while and sit back with a grin and enjoy a different time.

You couldn't do a Blazing Saddles today to say nothing of Private Lessons or My Tutor without it coming loaded with heavy handed cautionary morality lessons. My wife and I and a friend of ours were sitting around the other day talking and Revenge of the Nerds was on in the background and some of the stereotypes and content coming out of that was something we commented on that you just don't see anymore...then we proceeded to watch the rest and laugh our butts off the entire time. Can't wait to show it to my son when he is 10! I love it... [Smile]

Well me and my friends at the time would have had no problems at all having a sexy French maid trying to seduce us! She wouldn't have had to try very hard. It would have been ON! We were some horny little b**tards! LOL
