I need to get on the ball here with Christmas shopping. Last night I ordered my mom a bread machine and I bought a cookbook on different breads, to go with it. She has wanted the old movie "The Good Earth", so I bought it, and I bought her the DVD of "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte (which I have never seen).
My son wants the new Rock Band game, with the drums. He wants a few games. I only bought 1 so far, it's called The Prince of Persia-I pre ordered it. I plan on buying him the new Batman movie (even though I hated it)-he liked it.
I have one really cool gift for a friend that I can't wait to give her.
So...what's on your list??
I love Christmas!

I also love Christmas. But here's the thing...
Every year for the last 5 or 6 years maybe more, me and my family have been spending more and more and more money on gifts and to be honest it's gotten ridiculous.. We've all agreed this year to take a step back and just buy one gift each, and make it a good one. So we can get back to what Christmas is really about, DRINKING!!!
Ha ha only joking, what it's really about is TIME.. Spending time together, enjoying time together. Cherishing time we share as when the day comes that we haven't got that, then we have nothing.
So ISIS, what do I want for Christmas?? Time with my family.. That's all..

Santa is bringing me the XFiles DVD box set, it's apparantly 61 DVDs, including the 2 movies.
Isis, the Guitar Hero World Tour was just released here, we were able to sell it from yesterday. We've already had faulty ones returned to the store - the microphones stop working, the guitar won't work, the only thing that hasn't broken down is the drum kit.

Jack, that's great. That's what we have said too...my husband and I don't buy each other anything. We use to go overboard, and it is ridiculous. I am very lucky, and there's nothing I want that I don't have, so everything in life is icing on the cake to me.
We have cut way back too on presents...everyone we know is so horribly hard to buy for anyway...because they don't "need" anything.
I do a Christmas party here with all my girlfriends and we do a Cookie Exchange. My husband's employer has a Christmas party every year...and last year they paid for a hotel room for everyone for the night, and a Christmas breakfast for everyone...it was really nice.
Stitch-I heard that about the Guitar Hero things...that might be the thing he wanted...because he said that I should wait until closer to Christmas if I was planning on getting him that because he said it had a bunch of defects in it.

I love love love Christmas as well, and spend lots of time with my family. We tend to go a bit overboard with gifts, but my favorite part is still time with loved ones. We started a tradition several years ago and sponser a family each year....me and my wife have big extended families, so when everybody throws in $20 or $30...it adds up pretty quickly. Last year we sponsered a family with five kids...they each got several gifts, includng Mom and Dad, in addition to a huge grocery order. Everything is annonymous...I dressed up in my Santa suit and quietly placed a ton of presents and groceries on the front step on Christmas Eve...I knocked on the door and ran to the top of a small hill and waited for them to open the door. I didn't say a word...I simply waved and walked off into the distance...my dad was waiting in his truck just a bit up the road. This is our fourth year to sponser a family...I encourage others to do the same....it's a gift to yourself to experience the feelings that come with it. Sappy, I know, but this is what Christmas is all about. PS I've started my Christmas movie marathon with "The Polar Express"...only 44 more movies to go!

I would like my work trip to either be cut short or cancelled all together so I can be with my daughter on Christmas day. That's all I want.

I just want to be healthy at least from now until after New Year's Day. I always manage to get sick sometime between Christmas and New Year's every year. Last night I was making up my list of what I want to make for Thanksgiving dinner and what I need to buy. I've got a lot going on next week, so I figured I'd better be organized so I don't forget anything when I go to the store. My husband and I really don't do a whole lot of shopping for each other at Christmas, because we have everything we need and if he or I need new clothes, shoes, etc. we just buy it when we need it. I also quit exchanging with my friends. It was becoming a pain in my butt because they all have everything they need, so I just buy something for their kids. Christmas is for kids, or kids at heart, anyway! kevdug, I love Polar Express. I went to see it at the theater when it came out. I'm also waiting for the "Elf" marathon. The only Christmas movie I have never watched in its entirety is The Christmas Story about the kid who wants a BB gun for Christmas. I thought it was so damn boring, I could never get past 15 minutes of it. I love the animated shows from the 60's/70's like A Year Without a Santa Claus, Rudolph, etc.

I LOVE the idea of sponsoring a family! What a wonderful tradition!
For Christmas this year, I'm going to savor each and every moment with my 9 year old son (I imagine this will be his last year actually believing in Santa).
And if Santa wants to leave a gift under the tree for me, I wouldn't mind it to be B.K. with a big red bow

ISIS...we've been picking families similar to what you see in "One Magic Christmas"...simply by knowing of someone in your own community who could use a little help. If you don't know anyone off hand, you can also inquire at Child Welfare agencies, Big Brothers Big Sisters programs, etc. Actually, checking with certain agencies is a good idea, because they may already be sponsering a specific family....it's good to "spread the love" and make sure one family isn't getting double, when there are so many more in need. I really reccommend it...good therapy for the heart. I don't want to be a bummer, but the first Christmas we sponsored a family, family friends on my wife's side had just lost their 23 year old son in a snowmobile accident...a few months before Christmas. They were really dreading facing the holidays, but became very involved in helping the family we chose....buying gifts, wrapping, etc....it was great therapy for them. It's one of the highlights for us each year.....we have so many material things, it feels really good to help others who are struggling.
Pittsburghgirl....me and my wife went to see it in theatres as well...the animation is amazing. I also own all of the original claymation movies...Little Drummer Boy, Year Without A Santa Claus, etc, etc. Remember the one with Baby New Year...he wore the top hat to hide his big ears...great memories. I'm hoping this year my two year old son will show an interest in them...a little too young last year. and...you don't like "A Christmas Story"? Shame on you EleanorJune...I really hope you get to be home with your daughter...would faking sick be too obvious?

Kevdugp73-I was in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. My little sister is 30 years old now.
I just helped my friend do a Halloween party for the girls in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters group here in my town, my friend is on the Board of Directors. I am going to join again. They asked me about it at Halloween. All the girls that are the Big Sisters...they said if I join could they be my Little Sister.
I know that when we organized the Community Easter Egg Hunt this past year...it was the best thing I have ever done. We gave out over $2,000 in prizes. There were over 500 people there. The whole Community Helped me. I still am hearing positive stuff about it. So, this year I am doing it again, at the airport....it will be huge. I can't wait.
When I join Big Brothers/Big Sisters...I plan to have a Winter party here...where I get everyone here... when we have some snow, and we are going to have a snowman making contest...and I am going to make soup and sandwiches and cookies and cocoa. I always thought that would be fun.
I actually was going to go and fill out the paper work last week, but with my mom being sick, I never made it.

Cool ISIS...I was as well...a Big Brother for 8 years (same kid) who is now 24...we still keep in touch. No longer an official Big Brother...I now have my own son, who is my # 1 priority. When I find free time to give to kids, my nine neices and nephews are the recipients. Great to see others giving back to their communities as well.

I plan on writing out checks to our local food pantries, which are really hurting now that alot of people are getting laid off. I just have to pick which ones to give to, which kinda sucks. Maybe we could all help out the food pantries, if possible.
