In a case of life imitating art, actor David Labiosa who plays Carla's son Billy in the film, broke his arm during a scene where he attempts to stop the "rapist" hurting his mother. This is allegedly what happened to the real-life son during a similar incident.

In Frank De Felitta's book, the woman is named Carlotta Moran. The name was changed to Carla for the film version.

How did they do that? The scenes where you can see the invisible hands touching her were actually done to a latex "body double", molded from her real body, positioned with her real head to make a convincing effect. Wires were attached to it from underneath and when pulled by the FX guys under the bed/set, it looked just like her nude body being groped by invisible hands!!!
