Wanna see the real life filming location used for the camp in the movie?

These scenes were actually shot at Summit Lake, located in Argyle, New York. Google Map

The opening scene on the lake was filmed in Lake Luzerne. [Thanks to Justin Spraragen]

As for the filming locations, Sleepaway Camp was filmed during the autumn season of 1982 on the land surrounding Summit Lake in Argyle, New York. The former Camp Algonquin was the setting used for the fictional Camp Arawak. Robert Hiltzik attended the camp as a boy and returned years later to direct his first film.

When I visited in the summer of 2000, there were private homes surrounding the lake. It is private property, so I wasn't able to venture beyond the land surrounding the lake. Although I did see a cabin still standing after all those years, everything else has since been destroyed.

Last I heard, developers wanted to erect a country club of some sort. But something went wrong. Thank god!

The location used for Aunt Martha's House was chosen randomly by director Robert Hiltzik. I was also fortunate to visit the house, and took some pictures which can be seen on the website. The interior shots were actually filmed on a soundstage replica. The house is located in Glens Falls, New York. [Thanks to Carrie]

LX is our radical new locations feature that we've been beavering away on.. For years!

Each location will have it's own page with then/now pictures, maps, StreetView, discovery story and the most detailed explanations on how the location was used. Most importantly, the locations will have a status that shows whether they are verified correct and by whom. We are working with the actual locations managers or other crew where possible. The whole thing will be very interactive and you will, of course, be able to update everything.
