Brainstorm Filming Locations:

The research building is the Burroughs Wellcome Company located at 3030 East Cornwallis Road, Durham NC. Research Triangle Park is an industrial & research park in Durham NC. I was working as a pharmaceutical scientist at Burroughs Wellcome when Brainstorm was filmed there. We all figured the movie would get canceled when Natalie Wood died.

Duke Gardens in Durham were used for a flashback to Natalie Wood's and Christopher Walken's wedding scene. I was an extra as Christopher Walken's dad.

A scene was filmed in downtown Raleigh's historic Oakwood where Alan Fudge picks up Joe Dorsey in his car.

Christopher Walken is filmed at the Wright Brother's Memorial National Park (where the first powered air flight occurred) in Kill Devil Hills, NC when he tries on the Brainstorm head piece to experience what it is like to die. [Thanks to Art Beveridge / Betsy]

The movie makes it look like these locations are near one another, but it's really a 4+hour drive apart.

Another location is on the top of the bell tower of Duke University Chapel located on the campus of Duke University in Durham NC. [Thanks to johnboync99]

The inside of Duke Chapel was also used for the funeral scene for Louise Fletcher's character. I was there as an extra. I was priviledged to meet and talk to Cliff Robertson, who kindly gave me a photo of himself, from which I drew a portrait of the actor. [Thanks to Debby]
