Veronica mentioned recently that the film "Popcorn" was available on Netflix, so I decided to watch it again tonight.

I also decided to dig up some of our recent conversation on it:

Popcorn (1991) - not bad, has Jill Schoelen from Cutting Class and When A Stranger Calls Again.

loved the theme of the movie, and it felt like an 80s flick!

Ronnie.. "Popcorn" was a great horror movie!  Unfortunately, I think the cute name kept audiences away.

I loved the name, and i liked the whole film festival idea, the makeup effects were pretty cool, I just wasn't fond of the music numbers haha. Loved the mosquito prop!

Ronnie.. are you not into Reggae Horror movies?

"Popcorn" was filmed in Kingston, Jamaica which I always thought was a bit odd, but hey.. maybe that was how they paid the actors.

"Come died in Jamaica Mon.. no machete, no problem!"

I loved the 3-D mosquito!

This movie also had Kelly Jo Minter from the movie "Summmer School", but Jill Schoelen is the main reason that I enjoy it so much.

Wanna watch "The Possessor" tonight?

well then that would explain the music! didn't know where it was filmed, thanks for the trivia haha.

i loved seeing all the recognizable actors ...Dee Wallace, who always plays the star's mother in a  lot of horror movies... the girl from Summer School, as you mentioned. She was also in House Party lol..the guy from One Crazy Summer who plays Bobcat's brother.. I remember him having a small role in My Girl as a hippie.

btw, I also loved the shock-clock!

didn't the Posessor remind you of the video in The Ring?   [Big Grin]

I actually haven't seen "Popcorn" in several years, so I'll try to add some thoughts after I watch it.  Anyone else want to Netflix it with me tonight?

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed the premise of "Popcorn".. I could totally see all of us putting on one of these all night movie festivals only with 80's flicks like "Friday the 13th 3-D, "The Blob", "The Return of the Living Dead" and "Night of the Creeps".

"Popcorn" had above average make-up effects and the killings were kinda cool. I also think the Jamaican setting made it that much more creepier to watch. Really liked the reggae band that came on stage during the blackout. And the fact that movies within the movie were so purposely lame .. it made "Popcorn" seem that much more believable.

Awesome theater crowd reactions!

i remember going to fangoria festival in nyc in january '9, the year this was coming out. there was a lot of promotion for this movie at the time. i still have this pin shaped like a popcorn bucket with the movie title across the bucket.

anyway, i was disappointed with the movie. maybe i was looking for something a little gorier. but i only saw it once.

i also remember checking out luther the geek because of the hype at fango. that movie wasn't great either.

Watched Popcorn and i have to say that it was pretty entertaining early 90s horror flick.
The three "mini movies" were very well made and yeah, the audience reactions were awesome.
In the end, Schoelen doesn´t do much in the film but she was cast in the last minute so i don´t blame her.
few interesting ideas, some nice kills and i loved the Dreamland theater.
