Okay I just watched the remake in the early 90s of this film. I liked it, it had a Hitch**** feel to it for some reason. I loved the accents by Jessica Lange and Robert DeNiro. What a change of innocence of a character for Juliet Lewis also. I am going to have to look this one up because if I recall I thought that some of them got Oscar nods for their performances in this one?

Anyway do you guys remember this and if so what are your opinions on it?

DeNiro and Juliette Lewis were both nominated for the acting in the movie.

It's a good movie, but a bit too long for me.

I posted about this movie not long ago...cause it plays ALL the time...it was on the other night and I watched it again... Juliette Lewis was so weird in this movie, the way she acted, was like she was on drugs or something, she was a nervous wreck, and when she met him in the theater and their whole little conversation they had, it was weird...look how old he was...who's teacher calls them at home like that and has such an oddball conversation with their student, she wasn't too bright to not figure out he might be a bad guy.

I wasn't talking about her acting the part of the daughter -it was her mannerisms...she was shakey, and strange...like when he kissed her in the theater...that was some kiss...who meets up with their teacher and makes out with them under circumstances like that? When her Dad came in her room and was telling her to stay away from Robert Deniro, and she did that smirk, and he grabbed her face, and she freaked out...I would have been freaking out too if I were him, and I knew what a nutcase was after my family, and my daughter was a total flake, and she was thinking the guy was cool. In that scene, I wanted to shake her too, cause she seemed completely out in left field.

The mannerisms are acting too. For whatever reasons, and I'm no acting expert, Juliette Lewis and the director decided at some point that her character was to behave that way.

Its a very good movie, although i think for creepiness the original takes 1st place.
Thought it was a nice touch having the stars of the original movie,Gregory Peck,Robert Mitchum and Martin Balsam turn up in the remake.
On a personal note,i have a Cape fear promo t-shirt from when the movie came out.A friend of mine aquired it and some time later let me have it.My mum hated washing it 'cos she couldnt stand Robert DeNiro's eyes staring at her from the washing line.

On a funny note this film is featured in a movie question today on imdb.com. Robert DeNiro's tatoos were done with vegetable dye. They said that it fades over a few months. If I was him I wouldn't even have wanted to walk around with those things on me for one day let alone a couple of months. I re-watched the ending of this again last night and I couldn't believe the intensity that the actors created.
