For those of you who don't know, it's a 1999 film starring Charlize Theron and Johnny Depp about, uh . . . Okay, in a nutshell: Johnny Depp the astronaut goes into space and is possessed by aliens, and impregnates his wife with alien babies. I know, I know, it screams situational comedy, but believe me it's a very dark piece.

I just heard about it a few days ago and rented it. I didn't hate it . . . But it just made me uncomfortable, which I suppose is what it was supposed to do. I'll admit that I just watched it because of Johnny Depp, who did fine with what he was supposed to work with. In fact, all of the cast did a stellar job considering what it was about (Well . . . except the guy who played Reese, that NASA guy who warned Charlize Theron's character about what was happening. That, and that one guy who played Joshua in Eight-Legged Freaks, but he can't act at all.).

The atmosphere was nice, but it got a little overwhelming sometimes (you got kind of tired of watching Theron stare sadly in deep thought). I've got to admit that Depp made a good villain--really creepy, especially since he started out really likeable.

I liked the beginning of the movie best, when everything seems normal but just starts to hint that something is wrong. Right about when they got to New York it took a sinister turn (for the plot, though), which was good but left us with characters that looked very serious all the time and no light breaks for an hour and a half.

I liked the idea plotwise, but it felt like more could have been done with it. It also reminded me of Night of the Blood Beast and made me miss the parrot monster. ("He's just using you!" "No! That's not true! <.< >.>") That's what this movie needed: a parrot monster. And a pregnant guy who just came back from the dead. In fact, that should have been what happened to Johnny Depp. Pregnant Johnny Depp.

The one thing I hated was the ending. What was that supposed to be? Depp's character has this cool death scene and then what, Theron is possessed? It just seemed too over the top. And why didn't the alien force escape the other astronaut when he died at the party? Those twins were creepy. The ending sucked.

But, this movie did have some things going for it, which I will now list:

1. Both Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron have Nsync hairdos.
2. Pregnant lady dance!
3. Psycho/Southern Johnny Depp.
4. The guy who played Reese couldn't act, but thankfully his character reminded me of Peanut Butter Cups.
5. Frequent use of variations of, "He's/I'm hiding inside you." made me think of Johnny Depp hiding inside Charlize Theron and popping out like in Alien.
6. Cool death scene.

So overall the movie was pretty good, but left me desiring more. At the very least, the ending should have been ten times better.

Exactly, it felt like the possession ending was cartoon-y and disappointing (Like the bad guy wins in the end--And creepy twins will overrun the earth).

A friend saw it and warned me that the ending totally ruined the whole movie (Which a few people here are saying too)....so I never rented it.

My 6 year old is in LOVE with Johnny Depp (Who isnt???) so I may find myself renting it one day.

Definitely don't let your 6 year old see it--There's violence and a way disturbing sex scene. The movie is definitely R.
