I had absolutely no idea that the 1988 film "Switching Channels" was a remake of this film. I just looked it up and saw all of the really good actors that were in it like Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Susan Sarandon, Herb Edelman, Harold Gould... and such. I would love to check this film out because I really like Matthau and Lemmon and I loved Switching Channels.

Has anyone seen this film? Do you think it is worth getting on DVD, it says it is available but probablly not to rent. Is it worth buying?

I saw parts of the 1974 version on TV a few times. But I have never seen it all the way through.

From what I gather, "The Front Page" has an interesting history.

It was originally a Broadway play back in 1928. And a movie version of it was made in 1931.

In 1940, there was a remake, but with a different title --- "His Girl Friday" --- and a female reporter, played by Rosalind Russell, with Cary Grant as the editor. The imdb.com, tallied that version among one the highest 250 films being ranked.

Then there was the '74 version. I might see that one, but I also want to see the other earlier versions as well.

I have not seen "Switching Channels".
