I just was looking over the list of movies on the 70's site, I never checked it out before, but a bunch of them I didn't even realize were 70's movies. I remember this movie on HBO..way back, I have not seen it in forever, and can't remember much about it, but isn't it about a football player played by Nick Nolte?? Don't they show his butt alot in it? That's all I can remember, and I think a sceen where he was in a bath tub??? Does anyone else remember it in vivid detail, it might be one I want to get.
There was no review written on it.

"North Dallas Forty" is a great football movie, based on the book by Peter Gent, who played for the Dallas Cowboys during the 1960's.

Gent's book is mostly taken from his experiences as a Cowboys player.

Mac Davis (yep, the singer) has a role in this movie, as one of Nolte's teammates.

I saw it just once, in the theatres when it came out. But it's not for kids, though. It's rated R.

What I liked about it was that it wasn't your typical cliched formulaic football movie. It showed the more cynical and often impersonal business side of pro football. The ad posters and trailers made it seem like a football comedy (like "The Longest Yard" or "Semi-Tough", which were also 70's football movies), but "North Dallas Forty" --- while it does have some humorous scenes --- has a downbeat ending.

Just watched North Dallas Forty (1979)

I liked it very much, nice football drama with some good jokes thrown in.
Nolte is excellent and so are the others.
This was directed by Ted Kotcheff (First Blood, Weekend at Bernie´s etc.)
Next i´m going to check out his ´83 movie Uncommon Valor.

Good movie. Nolte was really good in this. He should have been a much bigger star. I wonder what happened to his career?

Uncommon Valor is another good flick. Lots of familiar faces as well. Hell, anything that Gene Hackman is in is good. [Smile]

I think that Nolte has quite solid career.
In the 80s, he´s very good in 48 Hrs., Under Fire, Teachers and Extreme Prejudice.

In the 90s i like him in Q&A, Another 48 Hrs., Cape Fear, Mulholland Falls etc.

I really need to see more of his movies,
but i think that most are romantic dramas which didn´t interest me that much when i was younger.
