Does it only allow you to have so many topics on here and then it takes some out??

How come nobody ever posts about anything from the 70's?? That was when the best shows came out.

it depends on what settings you're using. If you have it set to showing posts in the last 30 days any thread that hasn't had any activity in the past month will be deleted. Try and set it for posts in the last 100 days or posts in the last year or something like that.

Icey, I think it's because so few posters remember the '70s well or were even around then. That makes us outstanding in our field: we do, we were!

Plaid low-rise bellbottoms...long straight hair, the Farrah Fawcett or the Dorothy Hamill...monogrammed sweaters...aigner leather purse & accessories...rugby shirts...wearing a boys class ring with yarn...taking the city bus everywhere and not having to worry...charm bracelets.

I still have knick-knacks that friends gave me in middle school and high school. I still wear my HS ring. I remember friends' birthdays all the way back to grade school even.

My most prized piece of jewelry is my gold italian horn that I've had since age 16! Just don't tell my SO, since he's given me pearls & earrings...I love them too, but there's nothing like having something for a really long time to be sentimental over.

LOL: I even have this pair of fuzzy socks that I got from christmas in HS...they're getting pretty threadbare but there's still enuf fuzz to keep me cozy under the covers...they're yellow with toes painted on them!!

My Aunt had a pair of those "toe" socks that were red white and blue, they were always so uncomfortable to me to wear, and my feet would sweat in them.

I was talking to my brother the other day, about this site and how he and I grew up. We were talking about all this snow, and how he used to have a snow plow attached to our tractor and would plow the entire alley by our house, and plow everyone's driveway out, and then do the sidewalks. He would get upset with another kid in the neighborhood because he would be up at 6am snoveling people's sidewalks for a few bucks, and kids would fight over who got the job. Now kids- they won't get out of bed to do anything, what do they need a few bucks for, when they are handed everything. It is sad.

We were saying about there not being role models on tv and even in real life for kids. My brother is a first responder and a volunteer fireman, because of growing up with a family involved in the fire company, but from also watching shows like Emergency! He loved that show. You saw real people in real life jobs, that you thought were exciting, and you pretended to be that as a kid, and dreamed about when you grew up you were going to be just like someone you admired off tv.

I was watching Little House on The Prairie last night, and I watched them as a family, and how much they loved each other, and helped each other, and people helped each other as a community. And I said to my son, picture the way they live, that was only 130 years ago, can you imagine what those people would have thought if they saw a Hummer driving down the dirt road?
They were playing the violin and the banjo-and I thought could people then imagine that people would be ripping their clothes off and swearing while suppose to be making music-for people to enjoy, what the heck kind of entertainment have we come to??

Me and my brother remember getting baths and getting in our pajamas to go see the fireworks for the 4th of July, and we would lay in the back of our truck on blankets, and people don't even drag themselves out of the house any more to even see fireworks, they don't get excited by stuff like that any more.

Most people don't get excited about anything. We used to be so excited about getting a pop every once and awhile, kids pack it in their lunch and they give pop out as a reward at school.

I think what will my grandchildren's childhood memories be??

Ice, I know you hate this stuff [who doesn't], but with all the media on the little girl in FL, they are urging parents to talk to kids about safe places & behavior. I spoke to my 11-year-old last night and repeated to her about strangers, to yell FIRE if someone is really scaring her, yada-yada-yada.

Jeez, I can't believe we have to talk about this stuff.

When I was her age and up thru college [I lived at home then, until I was 22] I used to walk thru this huge field/woodsy area we called The Woods...it was a shortcut to a clerk job I had at a drug store as well as to friends' houses, etc...did it for 10 years without so much as a care in the world. I guess because my mom didn't drive it seemed easier to walk a shortcut than go to the bus stop & wait for the city bus to come by. My parents never warned me not to because all the kids in the neighborhood used it.

I would NEVER let my kids do something like that.

Incidentally, in the next school district from ours, a kid brought a shotgun to school and shot birdshot inside the school wounding a teacher. While the initial damage was very minor, now this crap is right on our doorstep in suburbia. Consequently, a friend at work's kid [who lives in the inner city where I work] said they had a bomb threat yesterday, so the middle school was on lock-down with cops & dogs everywhere.

I'm the one who always says "Live in the Now", but damn, sometimes The Now is not so good.

HippyMOmmy, the Now is very Bad.

I talk to my son all the time about not even trusting the principal at school-cause I have been around him, and he's a weirdo. The janitor is weird. I don't trust anyone with my kid. He has never been with a babysitter in his life. The reason I'm on here all the time, is cause I don't have to work..and I want to pick my son up and take him to school every day, no school buses for him. It makes me so sad that his life is like this, but society doesn't give me any other choice. I want to be here with him on summer vacation, and I won't let that time go by in his life that I can't get back.

I hate the guns/kid stories...that is completely insane to me..that people have guns and their kids have access to them. If everyone wasn't so scared of each other, we would not be leaving in constant fear of the worst imaginable stuff happening to all of us every day. The news just brings it right in to your livingroom.

Someone told me they are starting more to censor MTV, why now? I hear 6 videos got taken off the daytime slots, it can't be anything as bad as what has already been on, I barely see MTV and I have seen all I want to of people being a bunch of pigs.

I walked home and through the woods as a kid too, and my parents told me not to, just because I could get hurt, by falling- that's the least thing I worry about now.

Well, I HAVE to work so I'm probably jaded and take things more in stride...you have to when you deal with idiot co-workers and ditzy customers.

I always had to rely on care-givers and I've been lucky...they've all been nice people who formed deep attachments to my girls. And since my kids were product of routine, they had no problem with the structure of school, after-school programs and summer camps.

I don't think I would have been suited to being at home full-time, but it's always nice to have flexibility in work schedule. I have more now than ever before, but the kids are older and you can't get back those years that are gone.
