I just had to say that any movie with Steve Mcqueen will be awesome! He had some good hits in the 70s and late 60s! I always thought he was one of the coolest actors I've ever seen! I also think it's cool knowing his son Chad was in The Karate Kid! One of my favorite all-time movies! Can't wait for the 70s site, hope it's as good as the 80's one! :)

A bit of Steve McQueen trivia for you:

McQueen was the original choice to play the lead role in the movie "The Bodyguard", which finally came out in 1992.

The script was written back in the mid-70's, with the hopes to cast McQueen and Diana Ross for the lead roles. But the project never got off the ground. McQueen died in 1980. Then the scriptwriter did a slight re-write, tried to pitch it to the studios again, and this time, Kevin Costner got the part.

As a tribute to McQueen, Costner decided to use McQueen's hairstyle for the movie.

That was some great trivia, I have some more. Rambo was also written in the 70s and offered to McQueen. He turned it down.It was retooled and shelved until the 80s when Slyvester Stallone took the part and made it a popular franchise. McQueen had previously made several action movies including war films, such as The Great Escape(1963). Thats why they thought he'd be perfect for the role of Rambo. But at that time, he was angery with the studios and instead acted in An Enemy Of The People(1977). He wanted to prove that he was an actor as well as an action star. He will always be remembered as one of the coolest actors ever.

Ali, about part of your post:

I find it interesting that you wrote this, because I recently rented out the DVD of the animated movie "Chicken Run", with the lead role voiced by Mel Gibson. Have you seen it? If you have, didn't that movie remind you of McQueen's performance in "The Great Escape"?

McQueen was indeed one of the coolest actors to have come out during the 60's. He was a BIG-TIME motorcycle and car racing buff, and did most of his driving stunts on films such as "The Thomas Crown Affair" (the original one) and "Bullitt". If he were still alive today, he would've loved to have do some of today's action films like "The Fast And The Furious" and "Gone In 60 Seconds", both of which featured tons of car stunts.

But I just can't imagine McQueen playing Rambo, though! :-)

LOL, I couldn't imagine Steve playing Rambo either. I did see Chicken Run, and yes it did seem to be paying homage to Mr.McQueen. Also, you bring up action movies of today lilke The Fast and the Furious. I believe they all owe something to Steve McQeen for his chase seen in Bulitt. Don't you? That film revoluntionized chase sequences, they would never be the same again.
