I known some similar threads have been posted, but after recently going through my movie collection after a long hiatus, I would often pick up a movie and wondered why I bought it! Because my favorite actors/actresses were in it! I guess I would scour IMDB and look up everything they were in and make some attempt to get everything they did. I think I liked the actors who had a short shelf life which made it quite easy. Here is a list of who I attempted to collect. The late list is ones who had shot careers.

Thanks Rip for placing this dangerous idea in the brain of a collector!! I kinda do this already, but not as intentional as looking up the lists on IMDB. I like the idea, but would continue to keep it specific to the 80's only. I looked up Molly Ringwald, for example...I have 8 of her movies from the 80's. *I'm a "list person", so this could get crazy.
Off hand, the handful I can think of are primarily from the action genre, so...I have most of the movies from the 80's for Chuck Norris (have to add the 70's for Chuck), Sly Stallone, and Arnold S...just checked IMDB and have approx. 15 movies for each of these guys.

I´m doing this all the time, try to collect every movie let´s say up to 1993 at least. I think Sly Stallone leads with 35 films but Linda Blair is not far behind. Usually, if I like that actor/actress then I'll have to watch all their movies... I'll literally go through IMDB to find every movie they are in!

A movie collection I would like to start is what I would call "the outsiders collection" from you guessed it, the Outsiders cast members in other flix. It would be a great section. Not all movies from that cast were worth owning but it would be a combination of fun movie after fun movie.

Great list, Riptide! I completely agree with Ralph Macchio and Matthew Broderick. Two great actors! Also, Laura Dern is a fantastic actress. Have you seen Mask (1985)? Her performance is great.

Chloe, I saw her in Mask. She was great, as was Stoltz and Cher. I loved Laura in Smooth Talk and Ladies and Gentlemen the Fabulous Stains. Looking at my lists, yes there were some great actors and actresses there, but others I was more intrigued by their style, quirky roles and even wondering how they fared with the industry, why they had fewer roles than they should of like Ilan Mitchell Smith. There was a period there where Drew Barrymore and Winona Ryder were kind of my Betty and Veronica! Surprised they weren't cast together in a Thelma and Louise type road movie!

Mask is a great movie! I think Laura Dern is brilliant in it. And so was Eric Stoltz and Cher.
I always wondered why Ilan Mitchell-Smith didn't get more roles. He was great in The Wild Life and Weird Science.

A friend of mine met Ilan Mitchell-Smith at a convention. He said that he gave up acting to be a professor of medieval literature because the parts just weren't coming his way. The stuff he got offered was like "rapist on Silk Stockings." (I looked it up. Silk Stockings was indeed his last acting credit.) Too bad. It's sometimes a coin flip as to who gets the breaks and who doesn't.

I have several actors that I collect "most" of their films (I have half of Tom Cruise and Sylvester Stallone). But only two have I managed to add every single title of theirs to my collection. And they are Nicolas Cage and Steven Seagal.
The only thing of Nicolas Cage I do not have is his first IMDB credit. The made-for-TV movie Best of Times. It's only available on YouTube. I'm currently working on upgrading the DVD stuff to blu-ray. A few of his movies have never been released to DVD so I own those either on VHS or Laserdisc. The ones that come to mind are Never on Tuesday, which I have on VHS, and Industrial Symphony No. 1: The Dream of the Brokenhearted which I have on Laserdisc, sealed no less. I think the most I paid for any one movie of his was Zandalee on DVD. That one set me back $30. Everything else was relatively easy to find with the exception of Time to Kill. Hard to find but not necessarily expensive.
On top of owning all of the Nic Cage movies, I have most of the soundtracks as well (if there's one available). What can I say, I'm Nic obsessed, haha!
