The local B&B movie theatre has a retro night occasionally. They have the Goonies on the list. I did not see it at the theatre and was wondering if it is a must see on the big screen.

Yeah definitely terdinthepoolggb, I saw it at theatre when originally released and can remember it really well, for starters its a really fun film and i feel that it plays even better on the big screen.

I've only had a couple of dud trips to the theatres, one was to watch - jaws 4 - the revenge and the other was - gremlins 2,I loved the original but didn't really take to the sequel at all!

I would definitely go and see it on the big screen. If I had that stuff going in my town I would go all the time.

I never did see The Goonies on the big screen although I did watch an inordinate amount of movies at the cinema in 80s as a kid.

I could just imagine people walking out of the theatre when the shark was making those elephant/werewolf noises in Jaws 4. Absolutely awful movie.

I did see Gremlins 2 and something I think warrior and I can agree on is that this one is not a must see on the big screen. I did not think much of it as a kid when I saw it at the cinema but I watched it a couple years back and I thought that it has got to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. In fact, I would rather watch Jaws 4 back to back than watch Gremlins 2 once. It's that bad.

I think you should definitely go to The Goonies. I think we should all be envious of warrior for seeing this classic on the big screen in 1985.

1985 was my golden year for movies. I was fortunate to see Goonies at the theatre when it came out. As a kid, was a big pirate fan, and ate up anything related to it such as Adam Ant and Yellowbeard. Was quite taken with the one eyed Willy treasure chase. I would recommend the big screen.

Alright people. Thanx for your input! I got tickets in hand and in advance just in case its a madhouse like the retro night they showed Christmas Vacation and had to open up 3 or 4 different movie screens to get everybody in. 3 tickets at $5 a pop, 1 for the wife, son and myself.

Ill be thinking about yall tomorrow night.

It was great seeing the Goonies on the big screen for the 1st time. You notice so many more things than you would on the boob tube. Actually spotted a goof which is always fun. I was curious how many people would be there so I started counting. I came up with 65-70. The best part was a memory created with the family.

That's really nice that you got the whole family in on it. I never saw it in the theater. My husband did see it at the theater when he was a kid- his sister worked at the theater and family night for employees was every Tuesday. They'd all go to Ponderosa steakhouse for dinner, then to the free movie. He also got a Goonies visor and notebook/folder that they handed out to the kids. We still have the visor somewhere, but the plastic part got busted up.

Was the visor a replica of Troys in the movie.

I've seen this movie many times...one of my wife's favs and my oldest son finally old enough to watch it...even got him a cool Goonies t-shirt that he wears with pride. I don't re-call seeing it at the movies though....so, glad you bought tickets...I'd love to see it on the big screen.

Which brings me to a teeny tiny rant....our movie theatre never plays old classics...WHICH TICKS ME OFF!!! Oh...one exception....theY played Ghostbusters a couple years back.....ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT!!! WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT IF I DIDN'T HAVE KIDS TO TAKE TRICK OR TREATING!!! End of rant [Razz]

Terd, it was white, but the front had that red/pink plastic on the visor part. Someday I will track it down.

Saw "The Goonies" at the theatre in Summer '85. At the time I was roughly the age of the kids in the movie, so could relate to the film from that standpoint.

Good movie, but for whatever reason I haven't re-watched it since that time.

I do remember one of the young actors also played "Short Round" in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" - which had come out in '84, the previous year.
