Aright so it has to be an 80's movie but the song does not necessarily have to be 80's although it can be.

Mine is Caddyshack which introduced me to the classic 1958 song Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWbXCz9UZYo

It was mentioned in one thread that the age of influence can be why you like a particular movie or song and I totally agree with that but I don't know how to explain why I would rather listen to old music from before I was born compared with the rubbish that comes out these days. This is real music!

Nice topic Bernie.

I have discovered so many great songs/artists just by watching movies or listening to soundtracks. Often these are songs that you never hear on the radio.

A few of my favorite 'discoveries' are:

- It's Too Late from the Jim Carroll Band (Tuff Turf)

- Anything, Anything (I'll Give You) by Dramarama (Nightmare on Elm street IV)

- 99 1/2 by Carol Lynn Townes (Breakin')

I absolutely love this topic!!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] One of my favorite 80s soundtracks that I didn't discover until a few years ago was: Night of the Comet. Learn to Love Again and Hard Act to Follow are some of my favorites. I actually think that Lisa sent me a copy of it OMG about 10 years ago. She also sent me some treasures from Sixteen Candles and Better Off Dead.

One that I have not been able to locate and absolutely love is Hands Off from Once Bitten. "Hands off, he belongs to me, hands off"

On the 80s' note, but a movie that takes place in the 60s, I absolutely love Monkey Time from Shag.

I did not like the movie Streets of Fire but it introduced me to the great song, I Can Dream About You by Dan Hartman.

A few stand outs for me:

I`ll Melt With You - Valley Girl

Living Inside My Heart - About Last Night

Bring On The Dancing Horses - Pretty In Pink

*On a side note, on the Pretty In Pink soundtrack...anyone know why Nik Kershaw`s version of Wouldn`t It Be Good was replaced by...whoever that other dude was!!! Bummer....

Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :

Wouldnīt It Be Good is such a classic song and i still canīt believe they chose a cover version. Nik Kershaw is the man!

Hereīs another opinion though: http://www.popservations.com/cover-story/wouldnt-it-be-good-nik-kershaw/

Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :

I've always really liked nick Kershaw,I'm not opposed to cover versions as there's been some pretty good ones down the years but I definitely favour nick Kershaw's original in this case.

Decent soundtrack overall though where pretty in pink is concerned!

I saw An American Werewolf In London at a very young age, in a time i didn't know anything yet about music
from previous decades. The movie featured Creedence Clearwater Revival's Bad Moon Rising, and made sure
i'd remember that band's name for the rest of my life.

Three decades down the road i'm happy to have every Creedence album on vinyl
(and most of John Fogerty's solo albums too), and still enjoy listening to them every now and then.

It all started with An American Werewolf In London though.. [Smile]

The intro song to Real Genius would qualify for this topic for myself. I think its called You Took Advantage of Me.

I dig Alexi from COB, easily one of the best guitarists of this era. But this cover is pretty weak compared to the original. But yeah, still cool that they know of the song and at least gave it a shot.
