Not sure if this has been discussed but it's coming out this year.....I'm not really sure what to think. When a sequel comes out to one of my favorite childhood movies, it makes me want to give it a shot. When it goes right to DVD it makes me feel dirty inside if I watch it. It can't be good, but like a moth to the flame, I feel like I will need to watch it.

It has a sequel...?

It does now (and did before with 1994's My Summer Story, as well as 2 or 3 prequels, including Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss). I'm not sold on it either, although having holiday maestro Daniel Stern on board should at least make the result salvagable at minimum.

Probably give it a go. Straight to dvd doesn't strike me with the same dread as it used to.

I'd be interested in your opinion - because I don't want to risk it myself! You just *know* this won't compare in any way...

Ya don't think it can compare at all, but I think because of my love for the first one I have to give it a try. I'm going to be in NY this fall and thinking about going to the broadway show of Christmas Story. We will see if we can fit it in.

anybody else really like my summer story/ it runs in the family?

Haven't seen it yet, but I will say that it's hard to watch old episodes of Kolchak without imagining a Ralphie voiceover over every one of Darin McGavin's actions (i.e., "The Old Man knew he had to get into the creepy old house and figure out what was going on...before it all got on him..."). Anything think there would have been any improvement in the role had Jack Nicholson taken it instead as originally planned?
