"In a savage time, torn between two rivals she fought for survival with the only weapon she had... herself."

"A band of medieval mercenaries take revenge on a noble lord who decides not to pay them by kidnapping the betrothed of the noble's son.
As the plague and warfare cut a swathe of destruction throughout the land,
the mercenaries hole up in a castle and await their fate." (IMDb)

It was time to check out this great movie again.
Flesh+Blood was Paul Verhoevenīs first English language movie.
This brutal flick is set in 1501, western Europe.

The cast includes Rutger Hauer, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Burlinson, Jack Thompson, Fernando Hilbeck, Susan Tyrrell and Brion James.
Hauer is once again fantastic and you have to give credit to Leigh for her role which includes lots of nudity.

Basil Poledouris composed the score and while itīs not as good as the score he did for Conan the Barbarian, itīs good enough.

Lots of brutal fights, nudity, cool settings, religious images... Verhoeven magic [Cool]

Any fans?

i've got this added to my lovefilm rental list, been years since i've seen this one .

i normally like these medieval flicks, this and the likes of hearts and armour,i can vaguely remember bits from hearts and armour which i saw at roughly the same sort of time but can remember next to nothing from flesh and blood.

definitely needs a revisit, another rutger hauer film i need to get round to seeing some day is a breed apart.

Both Hearts and Armour and Breed Apart were released on VHS here back in the day
but i havenīt seen them.

I need to keep my eyes open because both are highly interesting stuff.

OH yeah, Flesh+Blood is one gnarly movie! Definitely well done and it gives you a very real sense of how dirty and grungy life was in those days. As was stated above....plenty of violence, and nudity if you are sensitive to that sort of thing...I'm not! Then again, if you are watching a Paul Verhoeven movie you KNOW that he fills his films with both! LOL
