Devolution here,

What about Great Camp related movies?

Now I was going to make a list of my top ten but right now, I'll go three deep.

3) Meatballs Part II.
 -

Flash, Why are you a Dork?

This movie was played by Me and my Brother about 200 times when we were younger. Meathead was great, and the only thing that makes this movie not totally amazing is the TOTAL LACK OF SOUNDTRACK!!! The beginning song is the only song with words on the movie.

I just bought it on Itunes for 5 bucks. It was a genius move.

Devolution here,

2) Sleepaway Camp

This is the standard of all transgender movies. I think that this movie is amazing. The acting rots, but the deaths are cool. Yes, I'm morbid.

Does The Great Outdoors count? If so mark it down.

Also, chuck in White Water Summer. A great movie when you are a kid.

Alright Mysterio, I mean, Devo...we're waiting here with bated breath...what's your #1 choice?

I gotta give you props on your other selections. Meatballs II is great! Why is there no DVD of this yet?? I've never purchased a movie from iTunes...what's the quality like?

Hahahaha!! I couldn't agree more!! The ending of this movie will mess you up the first time you see it! What a classic!

Isn't there a bizarre curling iron related death? It's been a minute since I've watched this but that one always made me singe...I mean cringe! [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!]

Devolution here,

Oddly, My number one choice isn't what some people might guess. While Friday the 13th, Summer Camp Nightmare, Meatballs, Heavyweights, and White Water Summer all have their place in my life as movies I genuinely like, my favorite camp movie I will have branch into 2 movies, One from being a kid and loving camp, and one from being an adult and reflecting on how much I liked camp.

With that my favorite camp movie to watch as a kid was...

Poison Ivy (Not the Drew Barrymore one)
 -

I loved this movie growing up. I don't know if it was a love of Family Ties and the Facts of Life, but this movie hit upon all cylinders for me. It focused more on the kids point of view on what kids think about in camp, the importance of trying to overcome camp fears and always dealing with the myths that go along with camp legends.

Michael J. Fox was at his prime and Nancy McKeon really for the first time didn't look as rough and tomboy as she did on the early years of the Facts of Life.

It's readily available on VHS, and occasionally it pops up other places, but it's a great movie. It's only downfall was the fact that it was made for TV, but at 10 when I saw it, it did what it was supposed to do.

Devolution here,

My number one as an adult isn't an 80's movie, it's...

 -

Indian Summer

The Cast is really good, and it's mostly based on a lot of the things that went on in Sam Raimi's life when he was younger.

Fun Fact: In I believe the Evil Dead 2 (Possibly 1) Ash opens up a closet door and there is a Camp Tamakwa shirt hanging up in it. This is the camp from Indian Summer.

I like this movie so much because every now and again when I was a camp counselor, I would think about things that made camp awesome when I was 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and it was those reasons that made summer and camp great.

I like how they come back as adults and many of them picked right up where they left off, and some of them had to remember the things that they used to do.

They talk about Firsts (of all kinds) and they talk about the simplicity of life in it.

I get sucked it when I watch it, (Diane Lane helps), but all in all, everytime I watch it, I laugh because Alan Arkin really makes you understand how hard it was to try to keep young adolescents interested in camp.

Your super secret Indian name is...

Thundering Cloud.

It's a great movie.

I really can't stand any of the Ernest movies but I guess because this was the first one and it came out when I was quite young, I somehow fell in love with. It really is pretty decent flick and I am sure it's familiar with most of you.

Oh man, does Ernest suck [Smile] [Smile]
I remember watching it back in the day and i still have nightmares [Big Grin]

Poison Ivy and Sleepaway Camp are very good movies.
Never seen Indian Summer but i just bought the dvd because you recommended it.

Of course we need to add The Burning to the list
and can i say cheerleader camp flick called Gimme an ´F´...

I am not even going to try and defend Ernest [Big Grin]

Haha, it must´ve had some success though.
I mean they have made hundreds of sequels [Smile] [Smile]

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

The sequels were starting to get ridiculous to the point were one of the next titles could have been something like......"Ernest gets a urinary tract infection."

I really only liked the first one but the sequels were definitely barfarama.

Back in 2006 my brother promised to buy all Ernest dvd´s to a Finnish movie critic
if he watches them and give his reviews.
Well he did and here´s the article Elitisti goes Ernest

The poor critic must have been very pleased
that my brother included a whisky bottle to the package [Smile]

The reviews are very funny but sadly only in Finnish.

Only one whiskey bottle? You would need a bottle per movie really [Big Grin]

Some great movies everyone!

My top 3:

#3 Friday The 13th: Part 2

 - Click for Friday The 13th: Part 2 Rewind thread

This was my first experience with the Friday the 13th movies .. saw it on late night HBO and thought it was wicked fun. Excellent cast and that ending was just too cool.

#2 The Parent Trap

 -

I clearly remember the original film from the 60's being on 'The Wonderful World of Disney' during the summer when I was a little kid. I've watched it regularly ever since especially when my niece and nephew visit. The summer camp scenes are hilarious, but the camping trip is even better.

 -

#1 Meatballs

 - Click for Meatballs Rewind thread

Most people know that "Saturday Night Fever" is etched in my mind as one of my first movie experiences.. with my very first movie ever at a theater being "Star Wars".. but "Meatballs" was my first movie without adult supervision. A buddy and I went to it and it was just so much fun watching it on the big screen.

Honorable mention: Meatballs Part II <-- just a cute little 'so bad .. it's good' sequel.
