I have been trying for many many years to remember the name of an anime/cartoon from (I'm guessing) the mid-80s.

In the show/movie there is a kid who knows how to sword fight (ninja/samurai maybe. The setting is small village/forest in Asia in the past (no guns or anything). I seem to remember a bad guy stalking the main character for some reason and he wore a cone hat/asian rice hat.

I don't remember much of the storyline but I do remember a sword fight near a cliff or waterfall and someone falls over the cliff--has conversation with the enemy while holding on--but eventually climbs back up.

Please help!

Don't think so. Would have come out earlier than 93 and was tame in comparison to Ninja Scroll.

Okay, a little more information that could be helpful.

There is definitely a scene in a large forest--maybe swinging in the trees.

Also, there is possibly a sidekick (maybe a bird/eagle)?
